skewt:

Needed an existing SmartVU to do this, the Play Store entry currently seems very locked down to that device.
I used X-plore file manager to side load 'Device ID' onto the SmartVU, this gave me the GSF ID and User agent string (Device build fingerprint at the bottom) which meant in Raccoon I could mimic an existing device.

Device ID apk I used here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xnZ8iu7pm4bjCEnMYR8DV0JmYcQD-HrK/view?usp=sharing

The User agent string was:
DishTV-NZ/SV10/HiCast:8.0.0/OPR6.170623.013/himedi10291131:user/release-keys

Cool. So I wasn't missing anything obvious. Even the user agent doesn't get me any closer so it appears you do indeed need a device ID from that specific device.

Thanks for that and for the APK.

I see the app is now here for Apple Tv4 and 4k. Just watching some of the free stuff to see how it is. Be interested in what some of the pre-season football looks like before committing to the Premier League, think there's a few matches over the next week or two.

I checked F1. App is fine. F1 seems better?? Maybe annecdotal or placebo effect, but great to avoid Airplay and CCu (which both worked ok) I'm now back to Sky equivalents if not better

Agreed, nice not to have to Airplay it. May take a punt and do a paid month to try out some football before going full time on it! F1 seemed fine though never airplayed it so take your word for that though it does seem to be better than Smart TV app. Really hope it does work out well.

Disappointing that Spark still refuse to release the android tv app to all devices.. they could easily state what they support and leave it at that... I know you can side load, and I have but it won't auto-update on new releases!

F1 worked great with Airplay or CCu, the quality is excellent, better than Sky as its 1080p not i (I LIKE Sky) The ATV4 app is the cream, play pause +10 - 10 FFW quicker (but not thumbnail)

Ive noticed Wimbledon isnt super great. Frame rate issue. Bit its a bit better with ATV4. My wifi is 5Ghz, 4 metres range, so that's no issue but the ATV4 app just seems a bit better. Happy as.

That shouldn't be news to you, and I am sure you understand the support minefield of trying to support all Android TV devices. What about an older underpowered device? It's simply not practical to support it on all platforms and as such a line has to be drawn about a manageable number of known and tested devices.

As it happens I am running it (unsupported) on an Nvidia Shield and it's working great so far.

Cheers - N

What surprises me is that they release on Freeview's box but not on the high end TV sets.

As it is, parents-in-law won't be happy for having paid the Spark Sport Tax in the early bird but having nothing to show for it. If that's how Spark is planning on making their money, they lost it.

maybe they should have chosen a different unit than the flawed SmartVu X as that doesn't really appear to work so well; they're going to love fielding calls when the app crashes due to its problems!

Yep. Releasing it on the little SmartVU but not on the high-end, more powerful (relatively new, one year old model) TVs.

Smart, very smart...

How hard seriously is it for a provider to purchase ALL the units and test?  There are only a few official Android TV units on the market and testing it against these wouldn't be hard, no different to all the different android mobile handsets that spark sport have to test against.

How do you know they haven't done this and found issues?
