As I understand it, it is relatiively straightforward to jailbreak an Apple TV and run stuff like XBMC etc on it. I believe through XBMC, you can then watch TVNZ and TV3 On Demand streams - through XBMC plugins.

Firstly, is that correct?

Secondly, can you do similar for iSky and Quickflix (assuming you have paid subscriptions in both cases)? i.e. are there XBMC plugins for them (I wouldn't have thought so), or is there another way, like using a browser app?

Quickflix no as it's flash based and way too new. Not sure wha tiSky is, but no there isn't a way of doing it I believe.

The only way I see it happening is if it gets added to the Apple TV for the NZ region as netflix is to the US region.

On the website of FireCore, who do jailbreak software etc, they talk about being able to "Surf the Web" on your jailbroken ATV 2 after installing their software. So I assume that you could bring up the iSky and Quickflix websites - but the issue is, would the streams actually play. So even if a standard ATV 2 won't play Flash, can a jailbroken ATV 2 with third party software do so?

The FireCore software is called 'aTV Flash'. Doe sthat imply that you get Flash playback functionaility? They also mention being able to stream HTML5. What's that?

Also, as I understand it, Quickflix uses Silverlight. How does that fit in with all this?

No Flash on Apple TV, jailbroken or not. The Flash in the ATV Flash name just means that it's "flashing" a new firmware to it.

Definitely no silverlight.

a reminder that the 1080p version of the Apple TV (some still refer it to the ATV 2) can not be jailbroken yet as of time of writing

That would be incorrect. The 1080p version is the Third Generation.

There's a plugin called NZ OnDemand but it's currently broken for the TVNZ channels. Works OK for TV3 though.

I have an ATV 1 and was also keen to get Silverlight working on it. At the time I came across this how-to for doing so on Firefox on the ATV.

as othershave said, not possible.

However, if you use unblock-us.com, you can access US Netlfixand, following their instructions, can access Netflix (US<Canadian, UK- whichever you want) on your ATV without any jailbreaking at all.
