Hi There!

I have a customer reporting netflix has dissapeared from his AppleTV, and he read online that the new netflix platform isn't supported by Apple. Anyone tried getting Netflix to work off the built in web browser on a Sony TV?

IS the Apple TV configured to use US iTunes with an US iTunes account? Netflix only display/show up if those criteria are met.

p/s: I won't suggest using the built-in browser to access Netflix as I think it is using Silverlight for media delivery which won't have a plugin for the built-in browser.

You can setup Netflix with an AppleTV using an NZ iTunes account , just make sure the region is US on the ATV and you sign into Netflix direct, not via iTunes.

Have you queried whether they have changed their region settings in the ATV?  Could be that someone has been having a play and changed back to NZ region and then lost their Netflix icon....I personally have had no problems with all the ATV's and Netflix that we have installed, I just did a new install on Saturday using a brand spankers ATV (including latest updates) with a new Netflix account and UnblockUS account and it has been working like a champ since.  Really sounds like the region has been changed.

I was last using Netflix on Sunday on an AppleTV, no issues.

Can't see why they would break it - there must be shedloads of people (in actual Netflix region) using the AppleTV to access Netflix.

I'd say the issue for the OP's customer is they have been fiddling, or have reset the AppleTV and it has reverted back to NZ.

Hi.

He reports he "updated" it and it stopped working after that. I might go out there and take a look. As an alternative if it really won't work, he should look at a Raspberry Pi with RASBMC or what else do people recommend?

It should be fine. Just have to make sure the iTunes store is set to US, and that the DNS settings are using UnblockUS ones (if he uses UnblockUS that is).

He doesn't need a US iTunes account.

I was using it last night on an up to date ATV3.

As the risk of thread highjacking....

Can you use Raspberry PI and RASBMC to get access to Netflix?  I thought that wasn't possible... yet.

From my previous research you can't get Netflix working (or working well) on the Pi due to the whole linux/silverlight thing and having to open a browser etc etc.

In regards to OP I agree with the above, your user likely changed the ATV region to NZ and the Netflix app disappeared.

Definitely user error. There'd be uproar on here if it had been intentionally removed /
blocked / whatever. Using it right now myself
