Hi all,

I'd like to float the idea of constructing and maintaining a sticky in this forum which details the best method for accessing Netflix in NZ. This would include the best credit card method (e.g. Entropay) and the best VPN or DNS service (e.g. UnoTelly). It would be kept up to date with the latest and greatest offerings out there, based on the real world experiences of GZ users.

I pick on Netflix as I am in the process of scoping this provider out. Similar stickies could be created for Hulu Plus etc.

Would anyone else find such a sticky useful? I realise there is already a wealth of information hidden amongst various GZ posts already, but it requires quite a bit of time to search through the multitude of posts to piece it all together. I would see this sticky have the first post in the thread kept up to date with the latest relevant info so sifting through info would not be required. I realise that Orcon for example have a blog post on this subject, but it is not necessarily up to date or contain the best options.

If no one thinks this would be useful then feel free to point at me and laugh...

I think it would be good as some people do seem tohave issues but I had none. I signed up for Unotelly (dead simple) and then signed up to Netflix using youshop address and my standard ASB Visa card. Never had a problem :) Same for Hulu+...

Not sure one sticky to rule them all would work since results do seem dependent on the method of viewing Netflix ie: what device is handling the streaming, as well as ISP (upstream routing, proxy\no proxy).

Good thing about DNS services is they all offer a free trial so see what works for you. Orcon's blog was what I used to get going too.

As above... VPNs, free services, DNS changes, etc. Many different methods, some work some ISPs, but not others.

Best to ask what you are thinking of doing and people will say if it works or not.

Actually, I too think this would be useful.

Part of the problem is that when people post questions re access to these sites they're sometimes told it's been covered already so go search for it! (or questions can go un-answered).

Also, we can but expect more people (especially those of a more non-technical bent) to be looking for help with these matters, given how much press it's had in the last few weeks/months. To me, GZ is the ideal and logical location for such information to be located.

I went through the process last week of setting up Netflix and Hulu (primarily for an Apple TV) and found I had to gleen the information from a number of different threads on GZ plus other websites. For example, some of the stickies on this forum aren't that contemporary. Personally I found Netflix straight-forward to set up, but had more hassles with Hulu, so would have benefited from more instruction there.

The advantage of a sticky (if maintained well) is that it becomes the first port of call for such information, and should minimise the "dumb" questions.

Just my 2cs, as someone who's not particuarly techie...

Happy to put a post as sticky if someone can contribute with at least a list of services needed, ISPs they work ok or not, etc.

It would be ideal for a wiki, but we tried wiki apps a couple of times before and got no traction at all really.

If someone sends this kind of information to me I am happy to post and maintain.
