It seems Netflix has plans to increase subscription prices for new subscribers:

Netflix is about to get more expensive, but only by a dollar or two. In his company's Q1 letter to shareholders, CEO Reed Hastings said, "Our current view is to do a one or two dollar increase, depending on the country, later this quarter for new members only." Hastings then noted that existing customers will be able to stay at current monthly rates (e.g. $7.99 in the US) "for a generous time period."

considering it is already ridiculously good value and the increase is to the tune of at most 25 dollars a YEAR - along with the fact that they have a pretty decent track record of not being dicks - I don't have a problem with it.

What a great way to keep existing subscribers so they don't churn off and come back every few months to binge new content before churning again </not sarcasm>

Either way, it's cheaper than New Zealand options and I'd say probably cheaper/more content rich than the upcoming Telecom offering...

Because as a consumer everything should be free and companies shouldn't be profitable. /troll

I'm not disputing the probable value of the Netflix product/service. What I'm saying is that if someone is holding off because they aren't sure they want to pay (for example) $8 a month for a service, telling them they will now have to pay $10 a month for exactly the same thing isn't going to help get them on board. Of course, because the increase isn't happening straight away it may provide an incentive to get cracking and sign up sooner rather than later!

In a typical New Zealanders mind yes.

Had to laugh.

Comcast swore blind they weren't doing anything to Netflix traffic despite speeds dropping consistently and measurably.

Netflix gives Comcast pile of money.

Streaming speeds skyrocket.

Yep, nothing suspect there at all.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Peering is a complex topic so until you understand how it works then please refrain from further comments about the Comcast Netflix issue.

Yes, it is a complex topic, but to Joe Bloggs out there, it seems very much like a "money talks" scenario :)

If the interwebs operated on a "refrain from comment until you understand how it works" principle, then online traffic would shrivel, and forums across the 'net would atrophy overnight!
