What is the best device to use quickflix and tvnz on demand on and display through a tv? (except computer) I am currently using a samsung BD-D5300 blue ray player and access these through smart hub but its slow and crashes

Is a newer samsung device the way to go? or is there a reliable device out there im not aware of?

I would like to hear what others are using and works well

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Up until recently I would have said a PS3 but TVNZ have shut down their OD service for PS3 until next year for a revamp (much needed). Would you consider using a media PC?

Not directly no.   There's no dirct airplay from tvnz ondemand app (permissions apparently is the reson tvnz wont allow it).  I've had some succes lately with the tvnz channel on plex but that's about it.

I would have said the best experience would be a samsung smart tv or blueray - given they're the only ones with official apps (maybe lg also).

And yes you could use a pc, but you're tied to a mouse and keyboard then as they don't have lean back interfaces on computer based browsers.

It won't be long before Samsung lose their exclusivity of TVNZ / TV3 etc...
Give it a year and everyone should have access hopefully.

I don't know about TVNZOD but I have found quickflix on TIVO to be a great experience.
It's a little slow getting through the menus to select what you're after but it then downloads entirely and can be watched when you are ready. You can start watching once the download has started. Not sure how many shows/movies you can grab this way but I stacked about 10 and they all stayed in the planner with other recorded TV shows with a 30 day window to watch them. I thought the PS3 quickflix app might work in a similar manner but it only seems to stream.

I agree I was told this was coming to the device I own by someone at a company I won't name a couple of years ago.

TiVo is not a FV device  it just records digital programs via the NZ digital platform...  I already have a TiVo but one day it will die..

They were building an MHEG5 app to work on any Freeview device that supported MHEG-IC, last I heard it was due to be launched by Xmas 2013 which it clearly didn't meet.
