Hey got all excited when I realized that I could use global mode with slingshot, I know people have been doing this via VPNs for years but I am just not that clever.  I quickly made the switch and ordered a Roku 3 of amazon, with dreams of endless fantastic streaming.
Unfortunately I can get the Roku to connect, but then it can't do the update that it needs to activate the account.  When I look on line people have a lot of different solutions, but none of them so far have seemed to help.
I have spent 2 hours talking online to Roku help desk but just went round in circles.
Then tried talking to sling shot.
The person from Roku told me I need to disable network pings on my Roku to get it to connect?
Is there any genius out there who is doing this already and can advice me on what I need to do?
Thanks

I have a Roku Streaming Stick.

You will need to set up Static Routing on your modem or router to block public DNS lookups.

You may need to buy a new modem/router if your current one doesn't do Static Routing.

Unotelly have instructions at:

Hey... I did eventually manage to connect mine. I changed my internet settings to the google DNS. Then once it uploaded and connected I changed it back to my ISPs recommended Dns. Have to say I am so impressed with it. Best move ever canning sky.

nope - no dice :(

I've made the changes you've suggested & can see it polling the various DNS services before polling:
* 208.111.34.188:443
* 208.111.40.81:443

Both seem to be US-based hosts.

mtr shows fantastic throughput & telnet to those sockets works fine, so I'm not sure what's up here...
