Hi Guys,

Does anyone have one?

I've ordered one from the Play Store/youshop.  Currently on back order with a shipping date of 26/11.  Hopefully my order goes through successfully.

From the reviews online I can see the netflix app is pre-installed. Hopefully this app won't get disabled due to geo locations like I've seen before on other nexus products..

I have a feeling you are going to have to do things on your router to get it working with netflix etc (redirect traffic to 8.8.8.8)
Google has a bad habit of hard coding DNS settings into their devices (chromecast etc).

This means no 3rd party DNS services like UnblockUS and unotelly etc will work with it unless it's done at router level.

I'm already using my Mikrotik router to re-direct DNS. Currently using the DNS4Me beta service. You can export a list of hostnames to use in a hostfile on your PC so I've taken this list and set them as static dns entries on the Mikrotik.

The other issue I've found with Google is your Google account can be set to a specific country.  If I log in with my account while on a US VPN I still can't access devices on the play store. Hopefully this won't effect the player either.

My Nexus Player arrived today.
Just the initial unboxing and update done during lunch today.

Youtube did not want to play any video for some reason.
Will side load netfilx tonight to see how that goes.
Initially it looks great, performs well on the beach buggy game I played.

Orcon UFB and using global mode.

Hi astrae,

Mine took about 8 days from leaving Google land until I got it.

Update on Useability.

Youtube:
Broken, feeds and subscriptions show up on the home page, the video launches but will not play then you are returned to the home screen.

Google Play Music:
No Problem, All access works well.

Games:
Seem to be fine, no problems with the limited gaming I tried.

Netflix:
Sideloades what is obviously the phone or tablet apk. It does not integrate into the home screen and launches like a touch device app. Bummer I was hoping for better.
It is navigable with the remote but not something the wife will put up with.
Audio appears to be limited to 2.0 where the chromecast would give 5.1
Work in progress.

Bluetooth mouse:
Pairing not successful.

USB Hardware:
Mouse good
Keyboard not detected.

Current recommendation:
Wait until netflix has been released in NZ (March?) because it is not really easy to use right now, youtube being broke is also a bit annoying, but I guess that's what you get for being an early adopter.

Update:

Youtube now working. Factory reset seemed to do the trick.

Netflix still not usable as the touch based apk does not give the functionality the android tv apk would.

Plex:
Plex pass working really well. My HTPC is looking more redundant every day.

Games:
Leos Fortunes looks amazing and plays well. Yet to try more games, need to find a good one.

Google Music:
Voice search not working. No results come up but manual search works well.

My Nexus Player works fine for everything I have tried.
No problems with YouTube or NetFlix. (I have a problem with NetFlix on my FireTV where Orcon's Global mode does not allow me to use NetFlix without UnoTelly DNS addresses)

NetFlix worked after simply going to the Play Store and installing from there.

Kodi (XBMC) sideloaded fine.

My only problem is that to reconfigure Kodi I needed to plug in a USB keyboard (and press "C") The FireTV remote has a button which opens up config screens.

You must have a US associated Google account.  I can't install the netflix app with my account no matter what VPN location I choose.

You may be right there. I did buy it with my US account. It was a week ago so maybe I initially logged onto that account (but now it is working with my local account).

Could you create a US account (use your YouShop address), factory reset, login as the US user, install the NetFlix app then reset again to your normal user?

If you are on Orcon global mode your google account might always appear to be in the US?  I've got a US account that I used to purchase the device and only log into it with a US VPN.

I don't have global mode and use DNS4me for netflix. I don't want to load the US account in case I lose its US status.

I'll probably sideload the APK.

If you are in Christchurch I am happy to have you bring your device to my place to try.

I tried it this way, no luck getting netflix installed from the play store. Side loaded it and it installed ok but keep getting a 100 error in the netfilx app and no joy.

EDIT: I did set it up first time with my NZ Google account, I wonder if that was my fatal error...

You can try going into the App settings and clearing the data.
