Anybody out there experiencing any bitrate issues with Netflix? I use Unblock DNS on Vodafone ADSL through Firefox on Windows 7. Since Sunday night the HD icon is missing on all titles and Silverlight is limited to 1,750kbps in the settings screen and so cannot force HD. My internet speed has not changed but it is similar to what happened when Chrome started using HTML5 for Netflix which seemed to deem my connection as not worthy of HD and so did not allow it as a forceable option (which is the reason I stared using Firefox). Netflix on PS3 will still happily play 720p, occasionally 1080p.

Is this happening to anyone else? Also, can anyone with a fibre or cable connection confirm that HTML5 allows Netflix to play HD in Chrome? I’m going to be on Vodafone cable next week so I’m hoping that the leap from 9mbps to 100mbps will solve this for me.

On Vodafone cable, Amazon Fire TV, playing HD fine... Also, ethernet, right?

Is the content you are watching actually available in HD?

A lot of older shows/movies don't have HD source so you won't get the option.

What are you watching?

I tried a range of stuff, new and old including things that I have previously watched in HD; Marco Polo, Walking Dead, Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit (Zzzz).

Tested on my Snap fibre and I can confirm HD shows aren't working on Chrome missing icon etc, but it works on firefox.

HD working on Vodafone via wifi (to an XBox One)... over a large distance.
I think something else may be afoot at your end.

Interesting. Running Chrome on a Windows 7 machine and not getting an HD icon on the control bar either. However, according to the Netflix example stream I am getting HD - bitrate 3000kbps, resolution 1280x720, par 1:1. It takes a couple of minutes for the stream to build up and settle into this, which is the way it usually works. Programs (which do usually have the HD option) are certainly sharp to view after a short time. Sounds like it's a minor Chrome issue but the stream is coming through at the best rate it can anyway.
