So I had a setup that worked perfectly well before... now it seems something has changed...

The setup was;

- Orcon ISP with global mode
- Netflix US account via Paypal
- US iTunes account via Air NZ airpoints credit card
- Apple TV using said accounts

I am able to browse the netflix catalogue but when I go to hit play on an item it gives me an error.... any chance anyone else is experiencing the same or is it just me?

Have you restarted EVERYTHING in your setup? Any recent update for the Apple TV?

Are you blocking/redirecting the Google DNS servers?

This has been discussed before, you need to go into your router and block google dns (usually under routing, set it to 127.0.0.1). This resolved the issue for myself and quite a few others.

Netflix apps have been changed lately to ALWAYS try Google DNS first, hence my question if you have any recent updates installed. You have to block Google DNS for things to work well (click the link).

Are you blocking/redirecting the Google DNS servers?

Don't need to with Global mode.

Why? Are you guys intercepting requests to Google DNS?

I have seen this statement made before on other threads - but the posts on geekzone would tend to indicate this is not true.

As has been mentioned previously - you would have to be blocking or re-routing google DNS servers which might cause its own issues for other customers...

Perhaps blocking google DNS servers should be a selectable feature for global mode users.

Not sure if it's related but Netflix on Xbox 360 wasn't working for me this morning but it was working on my Sony Blu Ray player. Probably an issue with Xbox.

I have the same issue with Apple TV via Astrill VPN. Just recently it started giving this error re unable to contact netflix. The first time I reconnected my VPN and it worked and the other couple of times I restarted the ATV and it sorted it. Happens everytime I try to use Netflix although once fixed its OK until the ATV goes to sleep next.

Seems to have started around the same time that the NZ apps became available on other platforms??

I'm suspecting some sort of DNS issue - Astrill recommend using google DNS.

My question would be if I don't use Google DNS and block it, what DNS do I use?
