Great news, maybe someone else has reported it before me, but you can switch your Apple TV to NZ iTunes Store and still see the US Netflix library of content, which means no switching back and forward when you want to watch a rental from iTunes.

Life saver!

Itunes ( in all its forms) has always been pretty agnostic about your geo-location,

As long as you have a valid accounts with a specific country store (US, UK, NZ ) you can log into it from pretty much anywhere and get content from that store..

I'm not sure why you would.  I always preferred the US itunes Catalog for rentals (cheaper) + TV, but all the other channels that we generally can't use.

I'd potentially look at switching netflix to NZD, but its currently only $7.99USD and paid through my us iTunes account.

Because US iTunes rejects NZ credit cards.......which means you need to stuff around an buy iTunes vouchers if you just want to watch the odd movie off the cuff, or you need to sign up to Airpoints and get a region free card...
If you're not a frequent iTunes movie renter, then this is great news...

Add to the fact that the Apple TV is horribly slow and bad at text input without a bluetooth keyboard, it makes switching the store a huge hassle

If you have an iOS device, you can use Apple's remote app for the Apple TV. It makes entering text easy.

Am I understanding this correctly? You can sign up to NZ Netflix load the app to the Apple TV with a NZ itunes account but use a DNS service like UnoTelly or similar to then access US Netflix?

Yeap!  You will see US Netflix Library instead of NZ on a Apple TV set to NZ

I use Slingshot Global Mode with settings selecting the US Netflix to display instead of NZ

If they brought out an Android or Windows Phone it it would help a lot .  Not interested in buying an expensive iPad or iPhone just to access my Apple TV...

Have you got a Bluetooth keyboard, you can connect it up and use it with Apple TV.

That's exactly what I have been doing but for the last 2 days Netflix on my ATV will only connect to NZ Netflix. It's fine on my computer, meaning my Slingshot global mode choice seems to still be working. Any ideas?

I've tried changing iTunes region and tried a manual DNS of 8.8.8.8 but still only NZ Netflix (which I only have US account??)

If you tell the ATV to remember your iTunes accounts, then switching between them is as easy as using the ATV remote to click into the settings, click on iTunes account, scroll to different one, and select. No text input required. If I have to do typing, I use the remote app on my iPad so I can use the iPad touch keyboard.

It is cool you can still get the US Netflix library from the NZ app. I keep mine set to US most of the time to use Hulu too.

Edited for spelling.

Apple TV Does not require an iTunes account for each country. You can set the location to any country you choose without entering an iTunes account, and can use any app you have a login for. It'll even remember your app logins for each country if you switch around.

I put a work colleague onto Untotelly which is working well on his Mac, but he can't get Netflix running on Apple TV. When he changes ATV DNS to Unotelly Netflix gives currently unavailable error. Just purchased ATV so will be latest model, not sure on firmware.

Tried every solution we can find on the internet, reset, logged in/out, hold menu/down buttons.

Can someone give step by step instructions on how they got it going? Not really interested in USA iTunes account to get Hulu etc, just want Netflix USA catalogue. Is order of changing Mac & ATV, when to reset etc. important?

Any help greatly appreciated. A few more at work keen on Unotelly but most use ATV so are waiting to see if there is a solution.

Cheers, B.

With everything set to NZ on the ATV he should have access to the Netflix App.  The app and the Netflix account location are not linked - the service is available in NZ so the app will appear.  If he logs on to Netflix without a DNS change he will see the NZ catalogue (even if he has a US account - as it is location based)

Then all he has to do is:
- change the ATV DNS to manual and set it to the correct Unotelly DNS
- Ensure his Unotelly account is active.
- ensure that his current IP is registered to Unotelly.  If it has changed then he needs to re-register it.
- Set the Netflix region in Unotelly to US.

PS. I don't use Unotelly, I use getflix, but they are all basically the same.
If he can't get it to work with Unotelly then open a free one month account on getflix and test it there.

Thanks kharris, seems so easy and I assume that is what he is doing. All fine until Netflix error! I'll tell him to make sure Unotelly definitely still good on the Mac in case IP address changed, and double check he's entering correct DNS in ATV. He's quite tech savvy so I can't understand why the problems!
