Does anyone know if I purchase a Roku on Amazon - if this will work with NZ Netflix?

Link below to the one I'm looking at in particular! Thanks!!

I don't know if the Netflix app shows up if you sign up to Roku with an NZ IP.

I have the US Netflix App on my Roku, registered with a US Roku account and it plays NZ Netflix fine.

It wont work. I have a Roku3 and it wont let me add or even search for channels like Netflix or NBA game time on the unit itself.

The Roku3 internet site has the ability to add channels there as well. You can search and find the channels on there. But when you try to add them it says that function is not supported in your location.

So I think you are out of luck....unless you do the old USA IP address thing.

I am pretty upset about this myself cry

This is down to how you sign up for your Roku account.

You need to sign up with a US address and use either a VPN or a DNS provider (or plugin like Hola) WHEN YOU CREATE YOUR ROKU ACCOUNT.

Once created it works fine.

So yeah. PITA.

The obvious solution is a Google Chromecast that you can buy from the likes of Noel Leeming / Dick Smith for around $60 dollars. https://www.google.co.nz/chrome/devices/chromecast/

They plug directly into your HDMI on your TV with power coming from your TV'S USB connector.

I can heartily recommend the Roku 3 if you want Netflix - it's a very useable interface and is small enough to mount where have you. The Roku US (or UK if you want iPlayer app) account signup is free if you use Hola, then you can add heaps of apps at your leisure. The NZ Netflix plays on the Roku app by default (i.e. if you don't choose to parallel import using a DNS service or VPN). Having Netflix launch in NZ means this is a moregraceful fallback option than what we used to get: "Netflix is not available in your region".

That said, the Roku is better if you get a DNS provider or US/UK VPN, especially if you want to rent movies/TV shows directly from the built-in apps (M-Go). If you primarily want a media streamer that has some online ability, then yes, there are better options than Roku.

Guess a chromecast or roku stick would be best, but a fire TV stick could also be an option if you can deal with the Amazon bias
