Is there going to be any way to stream this reliably that anyone knows of, or should I just pay for sky for a couple of months?

I don't think you can do sky for short periods, pretty sure it's 12 months minimum though there is a good deal being offered now which gives you the base package + movies, sport or 1 other premium channel for free. Good value.
My Sky is essential if you want to record and watch on delay.

If you already have the Sky basic package, you can do Sport for a couple of months.
You could try calling them up to cancel and see if they'll offer you anything to stay (they did for me).

Live on ITV. You will need an dns unblocker and I "think" it will work with a chromecast.

Then you are out of luck unfortunately. You will need to watch delayed coverage on free to view channels. There is also an online subscription but I'd stay away personally.
Sky's attempts at streaming are incredibly poor to say the very least

itv works, had to deny geolocation and give a postcode (SW1A 1AA - Buckingham Palace ;))

Sky are offering on their website, join up no install fee and no contracts.

Good luck with that. I have tried using this service during games I wanted to see but was away from sky, and sadly very poor second choice to almost any other option.

Apparently NBC will be offering a live streaming package via Universal Sports, although I can't get into the site from work to have a look at it.

Edited to add: I think UK's NowTV has ITV as part of the Entertainment Package, but probably no sports content. Likely to have the rugby as part of their 10.99GBP per week subscription though.

And if watching it live through ITV streaming is not good enough, there may be THIS

Given the broadcast time, wee hours, the ftv may be an option

I'd definitely pay $20 a week for sports during big tournaments, provided the stream was decent quality and there was an option for replays and such. This the sort of model I think Sky should be looking to expand on.

Thats ~ $80 a month pretty close to basic+sports I'd definitely pay that for the world cup and proably a few other games during the year

Thanks to collisum for forcing them to change, My personal hope is sky loses one of its big sports like the NRL (come on lightbox sport think big ;) ) which will force it to change faster
