Technically interesting. However given the ease that Unotelly etc enable me in changing Netflix region (from NZ to US or anywhere from a list of 20 countries or so) and the other services they support (Vudu, Sony, Amazon, etc) it is money well spent. Certainly not costing me AU$5/month either.

So much hassle.

Just use a DNS-unblocker and be done with it.

Would it work with other devices (like an AppleTV, Roku or SmartTV)?
I guess some of them have places to tell them you are using a proxy.

But yeah, na, I'll stick with UnoTelly.

The problem with tunnels is that they are expensive: the average price is around $5/month.

OMG!  $5/month.  sheesh.  so much money.

Also, looks like this will only work on a browser anyway,  so using it on playstation, smart tv etc seems to be out of the question (unless I am misunderstanding)

While interesting to learn, it limited to browser only. Cheers for a post.

Bananabob: Very interesting article on getting US Netflix (at least I found it so)

That looks hard to set up.

Wouldn't it be better to install a DNS proxy server/redirector on the VPS so it would work with all devices?

That really is a lot of hassle.
I just use DNS data available on pretty much any of the first few search results on Google when typing "Netflix US from UK" (NZ in your case).

I use my ps3 so it might be slightly easier than it is via pc, but the way to do it is extremely simple

Sometimes you get caught and your channel is reset to the UK(/NZ) domain, but I've been on the same code for months without a hitch.
Having said that, I also changed my ps3 time to match US time zones, just to be sure ;)
