Wondering if anyone recommends a proxy to watch streaming content from overseas? or if there's one where you can change which country it's coming from?

Astrill meets all your stated requirements. I read a review of VPNs last week (can't find it now) that suggests it's one of the better ones, doesn't leak DNS and does ok at everything. Works well for me.

I second Unotelly. Cheap as chips (is the Geekzone discount still applicable?) and they have a VPN as well, if you need the best of both worlds (although the range of countries you can pick from is not as wide as some). They unblock over 300 channels worldwide with their DNS tunneller, you can switch between Netflix regions using their control panel, and if there's something you want access to that they don't do, you can request it be added. I'm very happy with my subscription.

I use Unotelly also and find it works well. I would consider a VPN, if only to hide my activities or to make it harder for those studios to try to use technology to clamp down on bypassing geo restrictions, but it's so hard to use a VPN in a router so that all devices in your network can be enabled.

I am not aware of any standard router firmware that supports VPN, you have to go to open source firmware like DD-WRT, Tomato and possibly Gargoyle. That seems to be a bridge too far for me.

I have been using Unblock-us for a few months now, primarily for Netflix region switching and it works fine.

I have had a few wobbles using it on my Bravia, but nothing major. One point of note is that if your ISP assigned IP changes, you need to visit the Unblock-Us website and follow the prompts to activate the service on the new address before it will work again.

Not that my ISP changes IP addresses at all (Vodafone cable) since they are static, I occasionally stream on the road using my tablet and a phone in tethering mode. Then I have to go to the provider's site (in this case Unotelly) to update the new IP which is assigned by the mobile provider. Of course I don't do this a lot since streaming on a tablet over LTE can burn up your data pretty quickly!
