Introducing Yahoo TV – and it’s free!

Yahoo New Zealand is excited to announce the launch of Yahoo TV, offering Kiwis exclusive premieres, box sets and catch-up TV on demand, for free.

Yahoo TV will feature world-class TV shows including Sin City Saints and Other Space, from the Yahoo Originals studio and available for the first time outside the US.

Other programmes range from comedy series to reality TV shows, with food-focused competitions such as The Great Food Truck Race and Cutthroat Kitchen, as well as behind-the-scenes stories from Tori and Dean and La Toya Jackson.

Audiences will also be able to catch-up on their favourite dramas including Home & Away and My Kitchen Rules.

Cora Spear, Yahoo7’s Head of TV & Global Content says, "Yahoo TV is a response to the growth in video on demand and a fundamental shift in how we are consuming TV and enjoying our favourite TV shows online, when we want. We’ll serve up great TV that Kiwis can watch anywhere and anytime – for free.

“Yahoo is committed to a global investment in creating world-class TV shows with Yahoo Originals and we’ve seen some of Hollywood’s biggest names getting involved, including the director of the smash-hit film Bridesmaids, Paul Feig, who is behind Other Space. This is just the beginning in an exciting journey to make Yahoo TV the go-to destination for great TV shows and exclusive content.”

Launching alongside Other Space on the new Yahoo TV service is Sin City Saints, an edgy new comedy series following the triumphs, travails and transgressions of a fictional Las Vegas basketball team. From one of Hollywood's most sought-after storytellers, Mike Tollin, and two-time Emmy nominated director, Bryan Gordon, Sin City Saints features an all-star cast including Tom Arnold, Malin Akerman and Andrew Santino.

The line-up of the premium Yahoo TV exclusives for launch includes:

  • Sin City Saints (A Yahoo Original series from two-time Emmy nominated director, Bryan Gordon)
  • Other Space (A Yahoo Original series from Bridesmaid director, Paul Feig)
  • Home & Away
  • My Kitchen Rules Australia
  • The Great Food Truck Race
  • Cutthroat Kitchen
  • All on the Line with Joe Zee
  • Life with La Toya
  • Tori and Dean: sTORIbook Weddings
  • Abby and Brittany

That would have to be the worst line up of shows I could imagine. Looks like this ones for the same people who watch dancing with stars and the bachelor.

Is it surprising that a free TV streaming service might attract the same demographic as the free-to-air TV service?
