So as per the email the providers sent out on 24/6/15 the time has come to make a call re Global Mode and cancellations.

I am with Orcon myself so made the call with some intentions in mind. After being on hold for a while I got the message that the retention team wasn't contactable at the moment and they will call me back. Stay tuned for those results.

What I had in mind was, seeing as they removed a service that I signed up for I feel I should be either
a) paying less (a similar service cost around $5/month) or
b) getting something in return (a bump up to a faster plan)

I'm also going to push for the my contract break out to be waived as per their email.

If an agreement cant be reached then it will have to be another providers turn.

Has anyone else made the call and what were the results?

PS. not sure if this is the right sub.

Science is but organized ignorance.

I've thought about this to, but the conclusion I came up with is.

Slingshot is the cheapest naked provider I can find for unlimited data, outside of special deals around having your mobile and internet with the same company.

Though there not the fastest in benchmarks, I can stream Netflix 4K over VDSL 30/10 so not bad at all.

Them taking away their DNS service sucks, but I don't think I'll be better off anywhere else...their retention team will likely just let you leave.

I wouldn't expect a or b because I think both are unreasonable demands.

I would expect to be able to break a term contract, which is why publicising Global Mode was a dumb idea in the first place because of the CGA implications of a service that one day could suddenly stop working for various reasons.

Hi there,

The offer being made in relation to the withdrawal of Global Mode is the ability to cancel without incurring termination costs if Global Mode was the reason for your sign up.

Global Mode was a free add-on but it did cost us to supply it, so we won't be offering further discounts or free upgrades.

We reckon there is still plenty of value in our plans, so we sincerely hope you decide to stay on board!

Cheers,

Cam

AS they are both owned by the same company, they wouldn't be really losing a customer. I would suggest looking at what Spark or even 2 Degrees can now offer you, with their new offerings which they will be trying to gain hold of the market with.

If it was costing you, then there should be no problems with your company paying for all the previous users of it to get an offshore replacement :-P

Doesn't that statement contradict itself. You are making a saving by not providing global mode, as you said it cost you to supply it. So that means your cost per customer would be less, and not the same, hence the OPs request of the discount on the difference.

It did cost you you supply it, that's exactly why you should offer discounts, because you no longer have to pay for it yet customers are still paying the same
Divide what it costed you by the number of customers, and reduce the plans by that much

How much do you think Global mode costs? I can tell you it's clearly not as much as you think if you're expecting a discount.

They could say, and then people would be fully informed, rather than speculating.

Global mode is nothing but a cost of doing business, and if anything is simply a marketing cost.

If you're going to argue that you should get money back you may as well argue that Orcon should stop all advertising and give a discount.

I don't see why people are fretting over such a small thing. We have one of the world's most competitive ISP markets with pretty much razor thin margins on the majority of residential plans. If you don't like an offering, service or product then moving is simple.

Similar to Slingshot except SS also include a voice line in the $89

I'm going to do the equation differently. Unlimited open term VDSL2 + VOIP line = $76 per month.

People just need to decide if they want to use HD, and the baggage that goes with that.
