I am having some success improving ease of navigation on my streaming computer. Keyboard shortcuts are a big help in some places. Is there any way to make the active video window (not the whole browser) go full-screen other than having to work the mouse to the right part of the window and click on it there? Surely this would be the first choice for a keyboard shortcut?

Depends what you're watching. Some sites have a keyboard shortcut, but it's not universal. For things like Youtube and Netflix it's "F".

I wrote a small google chrome extension in the end as the kids were driving me nuts not going to full screen in netflix and I could not find anything  existing to do it for me

Could be expanded for other sites easily

Lately I've found some of those windows aren't going full screen either.  There are real differences between how compatible some browsers are to things and it's a hassle at times.
I can't leave stuff comments on IE11 at work, or via the browser on the iPhone, but can on Chrome etc.

Safari on iphone is getting the reputation as the new ie, it lacks several features of the "better" browers

FWIW. You can do this with Windows 10 by putting it into Tablet mode.
