Hi Geekzone,

Thanks for reading my post.

I just recently bought a Roku 3 from Amazon and had it shipped here via Youshop.

I tried setting up my Huawei HG630B with unblock-us DNS but I think I did it wrong. Unfortunately unblock-us don't have instructions for this particular router so I had to guess how to do it but I don't think it worked. They have so many different DNS I get confused which one to use and where to input it.

I also did the "Routing" for 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 subnet 255.255.255.255 interface br0. I'm on Spark_Fibre btw.

On the first day, I installed it but I couldn't get past the Roku.com/link part of the set up. I couldn't link the device with my Roku account (US).
Then last night, I tried it again and it worked. I was able to get into the Roku but couldn't add netflix to my Roku. Seems like the router settings are wrong. I tried adding Netflix channel to my Roku account on my computer and it said I can't do it because it doesn't support my region (I had unblock-us set up on my computer as well).

However, I could sign up for Netflix free trial and play the videos from my computer so pretty sure at my computer level it's working but not at the router level. Strangely, I could play from my ipad Netflix app which isn't set up for any DNS service.

I hope someone here is willing to go out of their way to help me. Thank you!

I'll be checking frequently so I can answer any questions you might need.

Sounds like the roku account hasn't been created in the US region.  You might need to recreate it.  Unsure how best to do this via unblock us, ie if it's handled by them.   I think I did it through a US vpn at the time.

Remember netflix is here now....so regardless it will work on a computer...but who knows what regions you're on.  It should be whatever unblock us is set to.

I know when i registered my Roku 3 I just went directly to Roku.com and signed up there.  I can still easily access my account without a VPN.

Also I found this http://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg630b-gateway/changing-the-lan-dhcp-range-huawei-hg630b/

At the bottom of the image it shows Primary and Secondary DNS server address.  I would suspect you would put unblock us dns servers address in those two fields.

I have a hg659 so its slightly different, and use DNS4me .  Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies.

Norman, can you please tell me which DNS addresses you're using? 111.118.175.56 primary and 118.127.33.48 secondary? Did you have to change anything else?

Hi

I dont use unblock us dns service.  I use DNS4me.  They only have two address which to use so makes it simple.  The only other thing i did a few months back now was to block the google servers in parental control on my router .  Once i did that I restarted my router and my issues were all solved.

Even when we switched to fibre the install comapny my telco used just connected us up to the same router and everything still worked.  We have Roku, amazon fire tv and chromecasts and dont have any issues streaming Netflix Hulu or anything else for  that matter to them.

I looked at Unblock us website and the two dns address to use are what you have specified in your reply.  I would use those restart router and roku and see what happens

Hope this helps

Just another thought.  Are you signed up for a trial with Unblock us or subscribed.  As a suggestion you could always give DNS4me, Getflix a go they offer a free trial see if they work for you.

A roku defintely works with unblock US, I can attest to that.  It's the roku signup process that I don't think has worked for you.

At the moment I just have a trial with unblock us.

I'm sure it will work I just messed up the process somewhere. I'll repeat steps again from the beginning.

Do you think when I signed up for a Roku account, if the VPN wasn't working, it would classify me as outside of the US? I signed up at their US site roku.com. I used my Youshop address when signing up and I used my paypal account for payment. My paypal is registered for New Zealand though. Would that make a difference?

Unsure.  I didn't think just having a paypal allowed you pay us sites properly.  I think I signed up at work, and are fortunate to have a us proxy.  So I new it was registered as a US account.  Then at home everything worked fine.  And I use a onesmart card for payment.

Also, for unblockus, on the main page where it has the 3 steps. It fills the green bar when you've fulfilled that condition of the set up. If I set it up correctly on my router, would it go past the 2nd step because 2nd step is asking me to set up on my computer and it usually lights up 3 bars after that.

https://support.unblock-us.com/customer/portal/articles/1648826-creating-a-us-roku-account here it says that Paypal doesn't matter and will work no matter what country. I did register with an american physical address though (my youshop address).

So I think that part is fine. It sounds like my DNS settings are wrong that's it. I'll go home and try it again tonight.

When you check...make sure your computer is also using the router's dns (since I assume that's where unblockus is loaded) and confirm you are seeing the us catalog (choose something not in the nz catalog)

Hi Probulator, can you tell me how you got it working? I have done all the same as you above, but still can't add Netflix to my Roku.

Was it just the set up of your Roku account?

Hey man,

I just really followed the steps clearly.

I'm not at home at the moment but when I am, I can screenshot my settings for you. I think the main thing was when I was signing up for Roku account, the billing details wasn't done correctly so it messed it up. After the second time round I made sure to do it properly exactly as the unblock-us instructions tell you to and it worked.

Thanks, I realised re-reading through the tread, that since I had my my Roku account set up to view my Plex media before I decided to try Netflix, I had to set up another Roku account with Unotelly running and link my Roku's to new account and all go go go!!! Finally Netflix running in the bedroom, my wife can now stop nagging me when I want to watch sports.
