Hi all,

I have the HBO Go app installed on my Roku and I am having authentication issues with it. I'm aware that every so often I do have to reauthenticate, but in the last couple of days I've had a new issue (NOTE: I am using a US-based family member's subscription for their cable provider).

When I go to activate the app and go to the HBO Go activation page, I select my cable provider (in this case DirecTV), enter the username and password...and then I get an error message stating that "it appears HBO is not included in the cable package I have subscribed to. Please call DirecTV if you believe this message is an error". My family member DOES subscribe to HBO - she has DirecTV's Premium package which includes damn near everything.

I also tried with another family member's account thru AT&T, but got the same thing. I'm guessing this only just happened when the HBO Now Roku app was introduced last week as it was fine before that.

Is it possible that AT&T has introduced some sort of IP verification to ensure that the authentication request is coming from an IP range within AT&T's range (which has extended to DirecTV since they are now owned by AT&T)? I'm using UnoTelly currently.

Anyone else having the same issue or can shed some light on this?

Cheers,
Richard

Yes, they definitely do. I thought of that one myself but I double checked with both family members and confirmed.

I have HBO Go on my Roku and FireTV using a Verizon Fios account.
I have deactivated it on my Roku and have reactivated with no problems at all.

One thing to look at is sometimes there may be too many devices logged in using the cable account.

I also thought of that and logged into both my family member's accounts to check the number of devices that were activated and it was 3 and 4 respectively, so there shouldn't have been any issue there.

But here's the weird thing - I tried it at my stepdad's place last night where I have set him up with a Roku Streaming Stick and Orcon VDSL and it worked without issue whatsoever. But at my place with Roku 3 and Slingshot VDSL on Sunday night it was no go. I haven't tried since but will definitely try again in the next few days when I get a chance.

Hopefully it was just a glitch at HBO's end but I couldn't find anything online about it.

Still interested to know if anyone else is experiencing it tho.

Cheers.
