I signed up for DNS4ME a couple of months back to use with Netflix on a 3rd gen Apple TV and it's been working pretty well

About two weeks ago, Netflix started showing the NZ catalogue when accessing it from the Apple TV. Usually after about 3 restarts (or more) of the AppleTV, the US Netflix catalogue will appear.

The setup is DNS4ME, hostname registered with no-ip.com updating from a Fritzbox. Apple TV has manual DNS IP set. I have checked my IP address is correct across no-ip.com and DNS4ME.

I have also tried setting the DNS address on the Fritzbox and accessed Netflix.com via a laptop, this results in the NZ catalogue also display until logging out and back in to Netflix.com. I have tried this over a period of a few days and each initial access to the Netflix site only has the NZ catalogue.

I have reached out the DNS4ME support but haven't found a solution yet, anyone else seeing similar issues or have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I use DNS4ME, No-IP and Netflix too, but a different ISP.
I used to have a similar problem because I hadn't set up the dynamic dns properly in DNS4ME.
I suspect it is something to do with your dynamic dns too. Have you confirmed that the IP address associated with your No-IP hostname is updating correctly?
Two scenarios I had were:

i) When you go the DNS4ME website and log in, do you get the message that it doesn't recognise your IP address and for you to assign it to an IP access zone?
If so, perhaps your IP access zone is set to auto-update. Mine was set to auto-update and then would revert to my ip address instead of my hostname.

Your IP access zones settings should be something like this

but instead of .ddns.net just enter your entire hostname. eg pknz.ddns.net, and make sure nothing is selected/ticked in the drop down menu under Use Current IP.
Once that is done, hit save changes. And it should work fine.

I believe in your case this is already set up correctly or else the great support at DNS4ME would have pointed it out to you already like they did for me.

OR ii) Check here that your ip address is correctly assigned to your hostname. http://whatismyipaddress.com/hostname-ip
I
f that doesn't match your actual IP address http://whatismyipaddress.com/ , the IP address associated with your hostname is not updating correctly.
Please note that it can take about 5 mins for your new IP address to become associated with your hostname. Perhaps this is why spending a few minutes restarting your apple tv appears to 'fix' the problem.

Your IP address might not be updating quickly or at all because a) the update settings on the Fritzbox being too slow (e.g. checking for a new IP address every 15 mins), or ii) your not responding to email sent by No-IP to keep your hostname active.

It could pay to ask 2Degrees how often they are updating your IP address.

It can also pay to clear your cache after changing your netflix region. I don't know if apple tvs have a hostfile cache, but PC web-browsers and windows OS do, so clearing those help.

I usually find on my firetv and android tablet that it can take about a minute to get access to the new catalogue after I change my netflix region.

I changed my DNS entries on my UFB modem and Wifi router to the dns4me ones to work around the fact that you cant change the entries on Chromecast. Never have any issues - although my IP doesnt change often.

I think you might have nailed it. I checked DNS4ME and it had updated to my current IP address rather than the IP address of my hostname. Have since disabled auto-update. Will give it a test this evening.

Thanks!

that's exactly what mine used to do, update to my IP address instead of staying at the No-IP hostname.

Let me know how it works out.
