Hi All,

My parents are keen golfers and used to love watching the golf on Sky but now that all the rights are online at PGATourLive and WorldGolfPass etc they've been missing out.

They're not tech savvy but have a Samsung Tab4 that they know their way around.

Would a good solution be to purchase a chromecast and then cast PGATourLive from the Tab4 to their main tv?

Easy to setup and use? Any issues with picture/sound quality with this setup? I suppose it depends on their internet speed - they live in the South Island and are on ADSL only.

Would like to hear from others who have similar setups.

Many thanks.

Hi Mattyyb,

If the games play in their tablet, casting from tab to main TV can be done by Google Chromecast or Roku Streaming Stick. The former is around $50 and the latter $85. However, when casting the Chromecast pulls the data from the server that streams the show. If for some reason your main TV and the Server have compatibility issues it may not work. Roku Streaming Stick simply casts whatever is on your computer/tablet direct. So with a Roku stick your tab has to be running while the show is being watched on the main TV.

An option would be to try out the Chromecast and if it does not work return it within 7 days and go for a Roku Streaming Stick.

Not quite sure what you mean here. What would cause a compatibility issue? My parents do not have a smart TV.

Also, trying and then returning could be an option but pretty tricky due to the fact I'm here in Auckland and they live in the South Island.

When I tried the Chromecast, I have come across situations where the show played well on my computer but not on the main TV. Only some shows. May be it is just my TV. May be you could ask your parents to collect/buy the Chromecast from a shop in SI so they can return it in the event it doesn't work? Better buy from a big shop like JB Hi Fi who didn't throw up a fight when I returned it. By the way, their main TV has a HDMI input right (for the Chromecast to be plugged in)?

As far as I know there is only one shop that sells Roku Streaming Sticks and that is in North Shore. You can order a free Roku Stick if you subscribe to Sling TV on their geo-blocked website.

Only issue I can think of is there is a weak wifi single by your tv or your using a vpn/unblockdns and chromecast is hardcoded to google dns
