Has anyone noticed problems with Netflix and Amazon Instant video on Amazon Fire TV connected via Netflix?

On my laptop the Netflix test video can easily get to 5800 kbps and 1080 but on the Amazon Fire TV it runs almost the entire test video at 375 kbps or around that. Also Amazon Instant Video content seems to be SD only.

Restarted the ATV a couple of times, it's connected via ethernet and using the same network as the laptop.

Yeah, have had issues like that before, Solution was to drop the auckland DNS from primary and stick something else in.

Changed DNS on Amazon Fire TV to AU and then to California. Restarted router, switches, TV, Amazon Fire TV.

The max on Amazon Fire TV was 512 kbps, 560 x 384 with a few seconds going up to 750 kbps. On my laptop it goes up to 5000 kbps in seconds.

Time to call @UnoTellyService for some advice...

I've never been able to get HD streaming via my Fire TV Stick.  Starts off in HD but after 15 seconds goes to SD or LD though Netflix streams fine from it for the US catalog..

I am pretty sure it was better than this before.

Just in case, replaced router and even swapped networks (Vodafone cable still here, uninstall tomorrow). Same results so it's not a LAN or ISP problem.

Anyone else on Unotelly who could test please test later watching this video and let me know. (You can't find that video on Amazon Fire TV Netflix, you have to find on browser, add to My List and then you will see it on ATV).

Just paid a month subscription to DNS4me and tested... Same results. Very strange. Different DNS services, different ISPs (cable and fibre), different routers, ethernet and WiFi 5GHz and all point to be a problem with ATV. But this wasn't happening until a few days ago.

I think I got HD with the Firestick when I first installed it directly to my TV. But the I wanted 5.1 audio so moved it to a HDMI switch buried in my HiFi cabinet and connected to my AVR. Then I lost HD but that could be because the WiFi just does not work so well when the device is buried in a cabinet. I have puchased a HDMI extender cable so I can biring the stick outside the cabinet and see if that helps.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

My Fire TV Stick and WiFi router are about a meter apart and Chromecast works fine in the same HDMI port..

I have a similar issue; Using Getflix, US Netflix runs full bitrate on my laptop. On my Nvidia Shield Android TV I'm lucky to hit DVD quality running same video (example short) within minutes of stopping the laptop.

I have only noticed this over the last couple of days. No idea if this is related but I'm not sure how to further this!

I'm on Unotelly, 2 Degrees VDSL, this is what I get

Fire TV: At 1 minute 2000 kbps, and 1280x720, at two minutes it has increased to 2350 kbps.  This is as high as it got.

PS4 at 1 minutes 1750 kbps, 720x480, 1:15 3000 kbps 1280x720, 1:45 5800 kbps, 1920x1080

MacBook at 1:00m 560kbps 512x384, 1:30 1050 640x480, 2:00kbps 1750 720x480, 2:15 3000kbps 1280x720, 2:40 4300kbps  1920 x 1080

No hd for me on the garage fire tv. Using both Sydney servers and just getting SD. It's not terrible SD like YouTube sometimes does.

I tried again using my Windows 10 machine

In IE I got

1m 1050kbps 640x480
1:15 1750kbps 720x480
1:30 2350kbps 1280x720
2:00 4300kbps 1920x1080

Using the Netflix app was slightly slower.

I resurrected my first gen FireTV and achieved parity with my laptop (1920 x 1080 after approx 2 minutes, Getflix Auckland DNS servers)

On returning to the Nvidia SATV I did a factory reset and Netflix is now fixed. Previously I had cleared the cache, soft reboot & hard reboot to no avail. In retrospect I didn't try clearing Netflix data which possibly could have achieved the same outcome yell
