Hi

I seem to be able to watch RugbyPass on my TV using ATV4's RugbyPass app, without a DNS re-routing service assisting....can it be??

I organised a trial subscription to both DNS4me and RugbyPass. I configured DNS4me and adjusted the DNS settings in my Mac (which I understand is a bad thing, as it means ALL my traffic goes via the DNS4me servers when all I really need to run through there is access to RugbyPass). I was able to watch streaming rugby on my iMac, but wanted to get it onto my TV - so I bought an ATV4 which has a RugbyPass app. I installed that and logged in using my RugbyPass details and it streamed both test matches last week without a drama. I can't see how DNS4me was involved in that streaming as I certainly didn't configure anything in the ATV4 to use the DNS4me servers.

Can this be???

Matthew

No - I'm sure the only configurations I did were in the DNS4me control panel (added the custom domain 'rugbypass.com') and changed the DNS entries in the control panel on the Mac, to the DNS entries listed in the DNS4me setup guide.

A little off topic, but I think the way these DNS services work is to only intercept requests going to the sites they unblock, and reroute that traffic through their servers, but all other traffic goes through your normal DNS (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It's a VPN which reroutes everything. So you should be fine having the DNS in your mac. That's why most people put the settings in their routers (although personally I prefer to do it by device).

Another strange one here, we've been slowed down to dialup speed for going over data cap.
Browsing the net is basically impossible and other streaming apps won't even show anything when going into the app, so can't browse content at all.
However rugbypass app is working perfectly.
I'm watching the origin game in HD at the moment.
