I've signed up to a 30 day trial of CuriousityStream and was disappointed to see most of the documentaries I was interested in aren't available in New Zealand.

Running it through their Android App/ Chromecast to my TV if I switch on an USA VPN for the Android I can see all of the content, but cannot connect to my Chromecast.

We're also  using dns4me which allows you to setup custom domains to country redirects. I got this working on the first day by monitoring domain resolution, but it didn't work on the second day.

Has anyone else had similar experiences/ found a solution?

It's very frustrating as I'd love to have CuriousityStream for my son, but it's currently not worth the money if the documentaries we're interested in aren't available in New Zealand.

I have a sub I don't use much.

I've not noticed any geo-filtering, but then I haven't looked closely.

That's not much help, but at least you know someone else who has a sub. :-)

Try DNS4Me.

That's what I use - but I had to setup custom domains. As mentioned in my original post it worked the first day, but not the second.

Interesting, I am not using anything to counter geoblocking and I have yet to find any content on there that is geoblocked. Do you have any examples?

"Trust Me I'm a Doctor" is available in the USA, but not NZ

On that note searching for "doctor" returns:

  • 7 results in New Zealand
  • 12 results in the USA

If you are a DNS4ME customer just raise a support ticket with them.

They are very helpful and often add services if you request them nicely. They added a couple I requested.

Now that they arent fighting the Netflix fight they seem to have started adding new services quite regularly.
