Been a Hulu subscriber now for around four years, never had problems with it taking my NZ credit card. Then about 12 months ago I bought a 12-month gift card off eBay for a silly price I couldn't go past. The 12 months is just up now and needing to load my credit card back on, but Hulu won't take any of my NZ ones. Anyone else had any issues with NZ credit cards recently, and any solutions? I know there are some gift card vendors online I could use, but would prefer to just pay with credit card if I can.

I also had the issue, my kiwibank credit card expired, got a new one (same number but new expire date) could not update it at all as they now block all nz credit cards by the looks of it.

Gave up, now use netflix and kodi

Haven't had to update, but it's still happily charging my AU AMEX card. I've found AMEX cards, for some reason, work far more often when merchants say they only accept US issued cards.

I had the same thing happen to me. I buy legit Hulu gift cards from buyfrompowerseller.com. I've used them before and they've been around for years, and I've never had any trouble with them. I'm using one of their cards at the moment. If you have a US iTunes account that's in credit, you can sub via iTunes using the iOS app, but then you still have to find a way to top up the iTunes account... (which no longer accepts my OneSmart card).

We used to be able to use our NZ credit card (BNZ Visa), but when it was reissued last year Hulu would no longer accept it.

We currently purchase US iTunes credit using my daughters ASB debit card (as iTunes won't let me use my NZ credit card their either), and use that to pay for both Hulu & HBO.

Yep. The only issue (which I suspect is localised to our household ;-)) is dealing with a grumpy teenager to get permission to temporarily borrow funds.

i pay for hulu using a US paypal account. The US paypal account lets you load an NZ card to it.

At the risk of hijacking this thread, can someone explain to me in 25 words or less how iTunes works? I'm not an Apple user but I got curious while reading here so downloaded the software for pc. Unless I am missing something (probably) it seems very slapdash to me. The movie store goes way off screen so I can't read half of it and can find no way to adjust it and the links don't seem to match the films that are visible. If I click on something, I get something else entirely. This after a very long and seemingly convoluted install process. Is this how it normally behaves or has something gone badly wrong? I don't have any Apple devices, no apps, haven't played with iTunes before. It is all new to me.

iTunes the app is a steaming pile of poo. iTunes store can be used to rent content or subscribe to services on the Apple TV.

It doesn't do that on my Mac, but perhaps it doesn't work so well on other operating systems?

Basically, iTunes manages your music library, plus you can buy and play music, movies, and apps with it (via the iTunes App Store which is separate but linked). Some of those apps (like Hulu or Netflix or some of the online magazines) offer subscription services via iTunes. I can subscribe to Hulu via my AppleTV Hulu app and it'll bill my Hulu sub direct to my US iTunes account. It's a good option for things that won't bill NZ cards if you have a way of keeping the iTunes account in credit. iTunes also serves the media to other devices in the house via Home Sharing, if you have an Apple ecosystem. Not quite 25 words, but hopefully that's of some help?

Thanks a lot. That does help clarify things but I have to agree with dclegg. Whatever is on my pc is a steaming pile of anal excretion. Or maybe Apple just doesn't approve of Windows. In any case, this mess is unusable.

Only one more question: Do I have to use this crap pile to access Apple services or can I just forget the app and do it on-line via my (non-Apple) browser?

Yeah, I don't use the iTunes app except to back up my i-devices. I think, unfortunately, if you don't have other Apple devices, you're stuck with using the app on the PC. It sounds like the cover flow feature is malfunctioning on your installation, so turning it off might make the app slightly more usable. Thanks but I already removed the Crapple from my pc. If they can't even make that work properly, then I'm very leery about what else it may get wrong. I just don't trust quirky software, regardless of the brand name on it.
