Looking for some advice – worth updating my aging HTPC or make the move to the Shield TV?

For those of you who have the Shield do you ever use your HTPC now?

Thanks

Hi I landed one here last week off Amazon, $308 NZD incl postage. Very fast when loading apps. I tried NZ app store and US, both worked although needed VPN to get US store, as expected. Signed up for Geforce now and it worked.

Has all the apps you need, Phlex and Kodi.

got a 2015 model refurbished off amazon for nzd$250ish landed here the other week.  went with 2015 model for the microsd card support.

really like it, will get a couple more for more tvs around the house.  android tv is by far my favourite OS for media consumption.  best plex interface, the recommendations feed at the top is brilliant and you can resume plex etc from there without having to directly open plex.

ill likely get the 2017 model for the next ones, maybe the pros.

I got a 2015 model from Amazon UK for around $250NZD.

Superb device, runs plex and kodi and any media I throw at it.  Highly recommend the Shield TV.

Yep had mine for close on a year - love it.

Fast, reliable, works with Harmony Remote, reasonable range of apps- incl SPMC (with any addon) and it also gives me Atmos and DTSX on my Onkyo receiver, 4k, OK as an android gamer, remote and integrated voice search is slick, expanded with 128G MicroSD - great device.

Highly recommended and would buy again.

PS: Tried 3 different android based boxes (incl Mi Box - which is getting better - but you do get what you pay for with the Shield) in the process and nothing comes close to the Shield.

Android TV as others has noted is great as a leanback / media front end.
