I've searched and it appears TVNZ or TV3 don't have Apple TV apps yet... does anyone know if either have an app coming soon or plan to release one?

Is there any NZ content available for Apple TV? All the major AU channels have apps: https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2016/06/whats-new-on-apple-tv/

Thanks

Just use your iPad or iPhone to stream via AirPlay to the Apple TV, from the TVNZ/3 apps.

My phone isn't setup for the NZ app store, but I guess I could switch accounts to install those apps and that may work.

And TVNZ will airplay now, which is the next best thing. You have to log into your ATV with an NZ iTunes account to download the NZ-specific apps, but once they're on there you can switch back to whatever store you like and they'll stay on the home screen so you can continue to use them.

Although it totally saps the battery, and causes my iPhone to get hot enough to cook eggs on (I assume; never actually tried).

Don't have the same issue when Airplaying from the Amazon Video app, so TVNZ have some optimising to do there.

yeah I find airplay a poor substitute for a proper app (or even chromecast casting).

Oh, interesting, I hadn't noticed the same on my iPhone 6S (unlike Pokemon Go, but that's another story) but we only use it once a week to watch The 100. I agree a native app for the ATV would be far superior, but at least we can get the darn thing on the big screen now. Having a TV on demand service that you couldn't play on your TV was ridiculous.

We watch it once a week too (800 Words). And now, I'm just in the habit of having it on charge when streaming it.

Pretty impressed with the picture quality. A vast improvement over the PS4 app we used to use previously.

I'll have to keep a close eye on mine next time I use it, which may well be tonight when I catch up on Location Location Location. Yes, the picture quality has been very acceptable, which is nice. I remember it being not so long ago that TVNZ OnDemand was pretty dire in that department, but it's greatly improved of late. I have to say that the ATV has pretty much fulfilled my wishes of being a one-stop viewing device. Between Netflix, Lightbox, Hulu, YouTube, 3Now and TVNZ I am spoilt for choice.

Yup it's all we use at home now too.

Even bought a 2nd one for a 2nd TV.

We also use them for Live/Recorded TV, using a server with a tuner card in it, and the DVBLogic software and Apple TV app.

I use Plex for this with nextpvr.
Tvnz used to be shown as an flagship on demand service (back when it came out on PS3 and before iOS). But it's never really moved on since back then. It's a pity.

Didn't know Plex could it, do you get the full EPG in Plex so you can set recordings etc?

It's more just live tv. And sometimes (when I fix it) recordings. But I also import recordings into Plex so a recordings view isn't that inportant. No control though I haven't written. That aspect (and are unlikely to)
