Interesting story I thought I would share.

Started watching the movie "White house down" last night on TV (I think it was TVNZ) then went to bed continued on Netflix, but didn't finish. Went to watch it again just now. Cannot find it on netflix search but it is in my view activity but it cannot be resumed.

Talked to netflix support, licensing has been pulled in the last 12 hours.

Coincidence do you think? Or are the networks checking and reporting licencing?

Coincidence. Movies/shows leave Netflix almost every day from what I can see on the web.

Coincidence. Movies leave and arrive on Netflix all the time. For example this is what's leaving April 2017. And those are not even complete lists as they are mainly US-centric.

I notice if I start on my phone on mobile data, I get different shows compared to what Netflix shows on my home broadband. I don't think its a coincidence, it happens fairly frequently.

Started watching master & commander the other day, it was nowhere to be found later, then when on mobile data again I spotted it.

The irony is that doing the right thing and paying your dues has bitten you - if you downloaded it, you wouldn't have had a problem.

This kind of carry make me nervous about digital rights - you can "own" a thousand titles on iTunes (or what have you), but those rights can be revoked and you're left with nothing.

That would seem wrong as you have purchased a perpetual individual licence.

If a DVD distributor loses a contract with a studio, they don't come round to my house and demand I hand back my DVDs ...

Amazon deleted some ebooks remotely from its customers' Kindles. The book in question? None other than 1984.

No, but it can disappear out of your purchase history and therefore not be redownloadable. Make sure you keep a backup of everything!

I saw some website that said NZ Netflix has 3333 titles presently, can anyone confirm this is roughly accurate? That is bizarre to me, I could fit that many films on a couple of HDDs. How can anyone justify spending $15 a month on that?

Especially if good quality, and stuff I want to see, plus titles changing over time.

The Expanse just been added to it season 1, iron fist Tomorrow comes out, Designated survivor has started up again.

So if you bought those titles at say $10 per DVD, that would be $33k, or 183 years worth of Netflix subs. And that's ignoring the fact that over those 183 years, the catalogue would expand and evolve over time.

How is that "bizarre"? Or hard to justify $15 per month?

It has improved since launching here. I recall ppl saying Netflix NZ had about 1400 titles at launch compare to then 4000 in US

I have been very happy with the range of quality TV series available

I forgot to add, many of the titles on Netflix include whole TV series and can be up to hundreds of episodes each. As I watch mainly TV over movies it can take a month or longer to get through one title.

Star Trek The Next Generation has 170 episodes, for example.
