Does anyone know if it is possible to just block the Youtube app on mobile phones from connecting?

I have configured Netshield block website feature to block a few websites using guidance from https://superuser.com/questions/713289/blocking-youtube-android-app-from-router and have managed to totally block Youtube for desktops as well as the app.

Ideally I would like to find a way of just preventing the app from connecting, but still let the desktop site work. My son has an iPhone, and I cannot find a way of individually blocking the app on the phone short of deleting the app.

Any block you can put in he will probably find a way around. He'll probably learn a lot doing it though! Plus you can probably view youtube in a browser or via other apps. It probably connects to a bunch of different domains as a CDN.

If you don't want him using it why not delete the app? There's probably some kind of lock that will prevent him reinstalling it.

Yes  - I saw those but they don't allow blocking an individual app other than Apple ones. I guess I might have to get draconian and delete it!

Is this more of a data budgeting problem perhaps?

Just a teenage addiction! We have unlimited home data. Maybe the solution is to put further restrictions on his wifi access.
