I've emailed TVNZ to get a heads up on what the NFL season holds for Duke - I'm not sure if they played any preseason last year?  Will report back when I hear back from them...

If I recall correctly, then it was more than one season where gamepass was free.  A relatively quick google turns up https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1hb4v9/question_will_the_nfl_gamepass_still_be_free_in/, and someone kept a screen grab too! (here: https://i.imgur.com/hkj9cxE.png)

As in the comments in the reddit forum, no one locally had the rights to broadcast the games, so it was kept free.  (I also heard that some company "sponsored" the passes - don't know the validity or truth on that one).

It all died when people realised that by utilising a VPN they could bypass the geo-restrictions (particularly from the US of A) - where they are subject to blackouts.

The free Gamepass sub in 2013 was what got me hooked on NFL. Peyton Manning had an amazing 2nd season (barring the Super Bowl) at Denver after being cut by the Colts following the 2011 season. The 55 touchdown regular season was something to behold.

Bummer - wonder if ratings didnt justify the cost.  Or whether the loss of Jeff Latch (project champion) to Lightbox was instrumental.  Maybe something will turn up on Lightbox Sport - next season.

I love opening weekend.  Its FOOTBALL season!
