Our Internet (RBI 4G fixed wireless) has been very good for the past few months, after periods when it was virtually unusable. Unfortunately, it seems to be back in the toilet for the past three days, getting worse every evening, and completely hopeless at this moment. Streaming is simply undoable, with constant endless buffering. Even Australia, which usually works without problem, has become unwatchable.

Does anyone know if there is anything going on at the moment that could be affecting this? The discouraging thing is that the mast we depend on recently underwent a major upgrade, so there is probably not much hope of near future improvement.

Huawei B315. Major firmware upgrade not too long ago but it has been several weeks and speeds were fine. Now they have plummeted again. Is there any way to measure mast congestion?

I guess I just have to suffer, then. I hope it doesn't last too long. Any big sporting events that could be affecting this?

Also is there an event or something else that means that there later a lot more people in your area? As a larger number of devices might be overloading the tower.

Have heard of this happening to a tower near a rural part of SH1. Road accident caused traffic congestion to occur on a normally free flowing part of the road. Lots of phones connected to the local tower and overloaded it. Due to everyone who was stuck in traffic, streaming music etc. Problem fixed itself once crash was cleared.

All it takes is a dozen more customers connecting up and it can impact peak time performance

4G only. It is better again at the moment but has been very poor (compared to previously) for the past three evenings.

The thing about this is my stats were often poor in the past. Since the upgrade they are always much better. I used to almost never get better than two bars of signal. Now it is almost always four. I just ran a speed test this morning and it is adequate, though not great, at a little over 20 Mbps down and 3.60 Mbps up. Rsrq moves between -6 and -10 db, Rsrp is around -106 dbm, Rssi between -77 and -79 dbm. These are better than in the past. I have also often been getting speed test results up to around 30 Mbps down. I am aware that as little as 5 Mbps or even less should be adequate for streaming SD video, but that has not been my experience. What I have seen over time is that if my test speed drops to about 12 Mbps or less, I have issues with buffering. Last night it fell to just under 5 Mbps and I couldn't stream anything. Constant buffering and break-ups. Later in the evening it became usable again. After three evenings of this, I was wondering if there was some kind of big sports event or similar that was attracting a lot of attention.

We are rural. The mast we depend on is 20 km away in a suburb. No idea what the kids there are playing.

Is there a specific issue with ABC? After a firmware upgrade and a few months of flawless streaming, we have been having problems again. Since the upgrade, our router stats are much better. Our download speeds do drop way off in the evenings but I just did some tests and even with 30 Mbps down, I am still getting buffering on ABC, though some other sites seem okay. In any case, ABC seems the worst. Before this started last week it was fine. This ongoing repeating issue is as frustrating as it gets. Can anyone shed any light at all on this? ABC happens to be our favourite channel, which doesn't help matters.

If speeds drop off in the evening then 99% congestion and 20km is quite a distance to be from a serving cell

Yeah, I know, but our signal readings are much better since the upgrade. It just seems like such a big difference from a week ago and I was wondering if there might be a specific cause. It seems odd that our speeds have started dropping so much every evening, but I agree it has to be congestion because there is a big difference the rest of the time.
