So what do people think of NextPVR? I just started playing with it but it seems very buggy to me. Or is that just my lack of experience?

What type of problems are you seeing?
Generally I think it's pretty stable and reliable for people. I'm not particularly happy with the performance with IPTV video sources, but that's a fairly recent addition, and it's improving over time. With a regular TV tuner, I'm seeing very few problems reported, and whenever anything is reported, I do my best to work through the issue so future user don't see it. (though that has been pretty much my strategy for as long as NextPVR has existed)
As it happens I only want to use it with IPTV to record streams. This is precisely where I am running into (lack of) stability problems.

I've been using it off and on since about 2007...in it's various iterations, for recording software it's pretty rock solid. But I can't really comment on the IPTV side of it....depends how stable the source is I guess.

Ok, as I mentioned above, IPTV can be a bit hit or miss.
Often the stability issues come down to the source itself, particularly with non-legit streams. What IPTV streams are you using?
Strictly legit. I am using the Huisman NZ and Oz streams. Solid as a rock on Kodi Simple IPTV.

I'm always happy to look at problems if you've got something specific to report. ie, like some scenario that leads to problems or a crash. I can either try reproducing the problem here, or if I'm not seeing it I can advise on how to collect additional info for me, which will lead to a fix, and then hopefully you wont need to see those problems in future...
What issues are you seeing? I haven't had any IPTV issues for quite a while now, but haven't done a lot of recording of IPTV sources.
So far, just things not responding the way they are supposed to. Some freezing or no response at all when I click on something, some channels that definitely work only displaying blank screen (ABC), locking up so I have to kill the process and restart. I should point out that I just started playing with this today so ignorance may be a major factor. It gets better as I work my way along. I was mainly just wondering what more experienced users thought of it. If I want to be able to occasionally record IPTV streams, is this worthwhile?

I personally don't have a VPN, which I'm pretty sure is required for the Oz streams, so I haven't used those specific channels myself. Are you seeing the same thing with the NZ streams?
No, that doesn't make a difference. I have DNS4ME set to Oz. All streams play normally in Kodi.

If can reproduce the problem, head to the Settings->About screen, and hit the 'zip my logs and show me where the zip file is', then supply that file, along with a brief description of what you tried to do, I'll check it out for you.
Thanks very much for that. I may want to take you up on it at some point but right now it isn't so bad. At least some of it is probably just my own inexperience. Right now I am wrestling with trying to get the millions of radio stations in their own group. I keep making dumb mistakes and there seems to be no way back so I have to start over. Latest example: I was trying to move the radio channels to a group but when I tried all of them at once the program froze and I had to reset so I started doing blocks but then I seem to have clicked when the mouse was not quite in the right place and it automatically created a new group. Now I am trying to figure out how to combine the two groups or get everything into one group but that doesn't seem to be possible. That kind of thing.

That kind of thing. You can't merge groups, but it's easy to create, add to, remove groups on the Groups screen. Nothing is committed until you hit the 'OK' button, so you can easily Cancel if you screw up, or would prefer to start over.
To create a group, select your stations on the left pane, and drag them to an empty space on the right pane, and it'll ask you for the group name. Likewise, you can add to a group by selecting your stations on the left pane, and drag them to an existing group. To delete a group, select the group name on the right, and hit the 'remove' button. To delete a channel from a group, select the channel within the group on the right pane, and hit the 'remove' button.
When you hit 'OK' the channel groupings are saved.
It's also useful to know that the column headers on the left pane can be clicked to sort by that column, but that would probably be more useful for channels from a DVB tuner, since it easily let your sort by broadcaster etc
@sub: I have been making good progress with this and most of the problems I had, which seem to be mainly due to configuration errors on my part, seem to be solved. The main issue I still have is not being able to access the Australian streams with a DNS proxy. I made a choice some time ago to set my proxies per device rather than at the router. Even though I have the proxy set on the pc I am using, NextPVR won’t play the Ozzie streams. The NZ ones work fine. The Australian ones also work fine on the Simple IPTV add-on.
I also have a question about the Android app. It says it is designed for phones but I would like to use it as a frontback end on a Nvidia Shield with Kodi. I just did that on the Windows pc and it works brilliantly, except for the Oz streaming problem. Can I also do this with the Shield?
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos
The android app is a NextPVR client app, so only a frontend. It is designed to stream live tv and recordings from NextPVR installed on your PC.
That client app can be used on NVidia Shield. If you're going to be using Kodi as the front end though, then you'll have no need for the NextPVR android app. (both stream live tv and recordings from your PC)
