Downloaded the TVNZ app on my iPhone last night, but couldn't for the life of me get it to cast to my Mi box's Chromecast. It just hung and then spat a "Player_Error" (can't remember the exact error). My wife tried on her S8 too, but also to no avail.

Any ideas on what the issue might be?

you don’t have a really chromecast to try?

And how likely is the mi box using the official google chromecast code as opposed to an after market chromecast client?

No, I don't.

I imagine there's a fair chance that it is an aftermarket version.

Not uber helpful though.

You might have to look at mi box support, and do other chromecast apps work? If so then it might be something specific that tvnz are doing.

Youtube always seems to work without a hitch, so yes I guess it could be TVNZ specific.

Will try casting some other apps etc. and see how it goes, thanks.

The Mi Box does not use an aftermarket solution - they use Google's official Chromecast code which is provided to all certified Android TV devices, plus select other TV's - https://www.google.com/chromecast/built-in/tv/

I've also encountered this TVNZ problem, and the problem is 100% on TVNZ's side, every other app, without fail, works flawlessly (likely TVNZ are only testing on Chromecasts, not Chromecast built-in devices). I usually just stream a Chrome tab, but it would be nice to be able to use the mobile app instead.

I too find the Mi Box fine for Chromecasting.  I actually have a 1st gen Chromecast (that is now just used for travel!) which I have tested with if I've had problems with the Mi Box.  If the Mi Box didnt work, neither did the Chromecast.  Its usually the app or stream thats a problem in my experience.

Yes, I've had no problems casting Netflix and YouTube to the Mi, so as has been mentioned here, must be the stream/TVNZ app.

Not to worry, there's always more than one way to skin a cat (not that anyone should! 🤣)

Thanks for the feedback, folks.

I've been streaming TVNZ to Gen1 and Gen2 Chromecasts at home over the past week without a hitch. From the app on my Sammy phone.
