I must admit I noticed that also and it was preventing me from doing things so I also blocked it (probably not the same way as Paul did since he is way more clued up than me :-)  )

On one hand, he should not be surprised.

 

 

On the other, he's right to make noise about it. The Chromecast is just a little bit too 'black boxy' sometimes.

 

Being able to force it to use prescribed DNS servers is a pretty basic function that it should just have. No arguments.

What about DNS over HTTPS? It's pretty much an API now.

From distant memory I think the Android Netflix app also has Google's DNS hardcoded and that was an attempt to stop people viewing Netflix in a different region where they are located.

I dont even know why they need DNS to use DNS on a device like that where they control both ends of it. Only needs DNS to find its entry to the chromecast server and the rest can be done over their own stuff where he cant see it even if he wanted to.
