Hi.

I am interested in what people are using for streaming music today.

I have a Spotify family pack which costs me $20 ish a month. I have it connected to my Amazon devices and largely it works well, with a few key features missing which appear to be integration issues. I like the interface, and the selection of music. Albums appear quickly once released and sometimes release early as artists preview tracks.

One issue is that currently we can't have 2 echos playing different music in different rooms.

I suspect Amazon Music would allow this though I need to check, and they have a similarly priced plan.

Keen to know others (recent) experience with Amazon Music, music selection, ease of use, priority of new music release, or any other streaming service suitable for a family that may integrate with the Amazon devices.

cheers.

I'm very happy with Google Play Music, but Google and Amazon don't really get along so that wouldn't be a good match for you. It also seems to be in the process of being mothballed by Google and replaced by Youtube Music... which is probably the point that I will jump ship.

Amazon seems to have a one month free trial - give it a go?

I have you tube premium at around $13 a month. Think it’s a discounted rate which I lose if quit my subscription.

I was listening to you tube music, but not to sure about sound quality of some of the songs, as think they’re taken from a TV broadcast, so I’m trying google play music to see if sounds better, sounds a bit of a blow if they’re winding it the google play one.

Apple sent me an email, we miss you, last night and if I read it right are offering a month free, Apples one is around $16 a month. I don’t watch you tube originals much or use the you tube download either so I’ll be missing nothing there. When I had Apples 3 month trial I think it sounded better then You Tubes one from memory.

I’ll give google play music a test and compare with Apples offer of a month free and make up my mind from there. I may switch.

From googling though it looks like Alexa only works with Apple in the US.

Spotify works well, search functionality is excellent. However I have had 'runaway volume' issues where the speaker has gone full volume without me touching the fader! When I bring it down it just goes straight up again!!! Turning the app off and back on fixes this.

Tidal 'can' sound great, but only if the product is hard wired to the network, otherwise I can't hear much of a difference at all... Tidal has painful search capabilities compared to Spotify.

Deezer is interesting, but I don't find its streams to be overly reliable (something I can also accuse Tidal of suffering from).

Apple Music became a little too invasive for the way I played music back from my phone so I walked away and have never gone back.

I still own loads of my music and have it on my server so I can access it anywhere in the world, plus my phone and tablets have enough storage to keep me happy when I'm away from home... so I'm still not fully committed to streaming whatsoever. I will however be interested to try Amazon Music as it has reportedly made massive steps forward in the States.

I have loads of my own music as well, but so little of it isn't on Spotify I don't even bother now.

I have the same problem. Spotify family pack, multiple echos. Can't have different music on different echos because they're linked to the same account.  Usually I switch one room over to a ueboom to bypass the issue but it's not a proper solution.

I'm thinking about trying Sonos instead. It's supposed to support multiple Spotify streams in different zones and it's Alexa enabled.

You can ask alexa for spotify connect and it will show to any device on the network as something to send it to, not just ones on the same spottify account. This lets you use a mobile to start music from a second account. You cant change it on the echo however.

Still very annoying that you cant seperate out automation and spotify accounts to different devices in the same household. Really limits the usefulness when peoples kids can screw with eachothers lights and play music on their siblings speakers at 2 am just by asking.

6 family members for Amazon music unlimited vs 5 family members for Spotify premium for family - means it might be worth giving Amazon music a go to get around the issue of streaming different songs to multiple echos.

Probably not for you since it doesn't play nicely with Amazon, but we've got Google/Youtube/Red/Family/Premium/Play/whatever they're calling it this week. Ad-free Youtube + Music + the (very) odd Youtube original I want to watch makes it a pretty good deal IMO. The shared family deal seems good value, though I did get caught out that it can't be shared with Google Suite accounts, just @gmail accounts.

I switched to apple music from spotify when AM launched. I listen in the car, at home and work and have no issues. I preferred the SQ on AM over spotify. About the only thing I miss is creating playlists and being able to share them on spotify. Siri integration and being able to voice request songs and playlists while driving is one of the best features.

Pay $129 per year although I think its going up soon?

Just signed up to YouTube premium family plan for a free month. Very impressed by the new YouTube music app. Serious competition for Apple and Spotify. Comment above re-sharing. I had no issue sharing this with non gmail accounts.

You can share playlists on Apple Music but way less people seem to use Apple Music here..

Personally, I tried using Apple Music but missed the Spotify recommendations (Discover Weekly etc) / listening to playlists from many people/places. I do like how you can fully control AM with Siri though

I have a whole Apple ecosystem, so Apple Music works well for me.

IN addition to the 10,000+ songs of my own (uploaded over time to the cloud) I intermingle the streaming content that Apple provides...great for finding new music to listen to across all my devices.

Of curse it works because I am in the walled garden...don't know hw well it works for a non-Apple householder.

I used to use Google Music.. Liked it.. Had a ton of my rare stuff uploaded.  Then everyone here wanted Spotify so I now have Spotify family.. I cant remember the last time I bothered listening to any of my own music..  I just use my spotify everywhere.  Works well.

Spotify premium is okay, but I decided to switch to Apple Music after a few years. Haven't looked back at all. If you're okay with some 3rd party ad company having RCE on your machine, then I guess Spotify free is okay too.
