Prime Video is often pixellated and low quality and pauses during play.

It has had issues for a while, we have recently got fibre but that hasn't made much difference.

Any suggestions on how to improve it

Netflix works perfectly

Are you using your ISPs DNS?

I have had issues with Prime too, similar to you. I have it as an app on Samsung TV and also on a Fire stick. I often get error message that a "problem occurred" and it won't play titles and on the fire stick poor quality picture with slight judder. I actually find the fire stick so poor I don't use anymore. Tv is connected to fibre by Ethernet. Netflix is King!

More info

I am talking prime video the one available in NZ

I have appleTV 3 & 4, only just got the 4 set-up though (Also have a first gen firestick But obviously Prime Video doesn't work on it).

Netflix works fine on all devices

Prime Video is terrible in the prime viewing time (seems to be before 8pm), i haven't had the "Problem occurred" issue, since Fibre came in

I am connecting via Ethernet through a hub to the router

Had issues sometimes as well. Vodafone Fibre. I don't have a vpn but lots of gamers and streaming in the house. Sometimes have issues with Twitch but very very rare with Netflix. I think they (Prime) do struggle sometimes. Had nights given up due to constant buffering. If not for still at the US $2.99 for a bit longer would have dropped it. Plus gives me a free Twitch stream so still have.
