Its all about the money.  Amazon must have pitched more to CBS for the rights than Netflix did.

It's only outside the US. In the US it will still be CBS All Access.

I wonder if you can see if if you're Amazon Prime account is US based?

Possibly, or they were in a similar ballpark and CBS decided its in their long term interest to have multiple bidders for future projects.

The last thing CBS would want is for there to be one hugely dominant near-monopsony that has pricing power ..... better to lose a few $ now to ensure the market is stronger in the future....

(CBS appear to be keen to expand their Trek show bases, (Picard, Discovery, Section 31, short treks, and maybe Pike) so having multiple bidders for them would help the bottom line...

Disagree.  Given CBS aspirations' for CBS All Access to go global it has every scope to keep future projects itself.  And there is always scope for CBS to write contracts that are ROS rather than LOS, or even have ownership revert if and when CBS see fit (a la Disney with its content licensed to Netflix).  I'd contend that this is all about the cash.  Amazon needs anchors for its ecosystem and buying a Star Trek series is a strong tentpole.

It would be a fair risk signing up someone who is almost 80 as the Star of a show like this..?

I don't know.

I don't expect that there is much location work, and probably not much "action" . Sir Pat Stew will do fine.....

I suspect he has a quiet wager with Ian McKellan on who will "retire" first :)

Not that I've checked but I suspect Amazon's selects what you can see by where your account is rather than where you are located unlike Netflix who check where you are to provide your viewing options.

To be fair, in the future they have much better medical facilities.

I imagine you could almost live forever so long as he keeps acting in Star Trek!

It'll be interesting to see if the slated Star Trek Discovery Spin-offs will follow suit and go to Amazon instead of Netflix?

About 12 minutes long, seems like there was a falling out between Netflix and CBS.

Netflix payment covered costs of first season Discovery, as there was  fan criticism of first season Netflix wouldn't pay as much and CBS had to cover lot of costs of second season.

Same people involved that were in making Discovery, looks like changes made and intended story altered to get Amazon accross finish line. With Amazon money  looks like production can start.
