Music has always been one of Alexa’s most popular features, and today we’re excited to announce that Apple Music is now available on Alexa in Australia and New Zealand.

Apple Music subscribers can now enjoy Apple Music’s 50 million songs on Amazon’s full range of Echo devices, including Echo Dot, Echo Plus and Echo Show. Customers will be able to ask Alexa to play their favourite songs, artists, and albums—or any of the playlists made by Apple Music’s editors from around the world, covering many activities and moods. Customers will also be able to ask Alexa to stream expert-made radio stations centred on popular genres like Hip-Hop, decades like the 80s, and even music from around the world, like K-Pop. Ask Alexa to play Beats 1 to hear Apple Music’s global livestream including in-depth artist interviews— all completely ad-free.

Australia and New Zealand are among the first international launches for Apple Music on Echo devices, following the recent launch in the UK. Customers can enable the Apple Music skill and link their account to start listening—either via the Skills Store in the Alexa app, or on Amazon.com.au

About damn time.  Restricting the region was such a dumb move.

So one of the newer Sonos speakers with Alexa built in (e.g. Sonos One) will be able to stream Apple Music using Alexa?

Good question. Not all Alexa services are available on third party devices - I know because parents-in-law have an Amazon Echo downstairs and a Harman Kardon Allure upstairs and they can't place or receive calls/drop-in using the HK.

I've got the HK Allure Portable for review and it's the same. Apparently third-party don't have access to all API available.

Having said that, Spotify streams just fine on those Harman Kardon.

This means you will need to test. I can't test as I don't have an Apple account for this.

hhan: Is Apple Music better than Spotify?

I've just started the trial - involuntarily - but so far I'm not sure. Spotify has great playlist support but the quality still continues to be poor IMHO. Apple music has always played nicely for me, but finding genres and content doesn't feel that slick
