Ok. Over the weekend whilst searching for a particular gay themed movie “Burning Blue” concerning two USA aircraft carrier Naval fighter pilots whom during an aircraft crash investigation find themselves in the midst of a forbidden relationship which throw their lives and careers into disarray and danger. Think Brokeback Mountain (2005) on the high seas. 😀 Anyway I found it on a streaming site for movies and TV series for which probably I am the last to know about in these forums.

Been watching a few of their movies and TV series (The Young Pope & Counterpart series both 8/10) over the weekend and have bookmarked a heap of others. I am particularly interested in pre VHS/DVD days; 50’s, 60’s & 70’s stuff and gay themed content and content from overseas streaming sites that is not geo available here in NZ, HBO, Hulu etc. I am not really interested in the latest released stuff as I know those will be out on DVD soon if I REALLY what them and I usually wait for sales on them anyway. I mean $8 to stream legally as opposed to $10, $20 and higher for DVD. I am also not interested in setting up a VPN.

The overall selection of movies and shows is quite extensive. The streaming quality is excellent. Though this sites catalogue is mainly English language based, it does have good quality (production etc) European and French Canadian catalogue. Their catalogue has all the latest released movies and popular shows and it stretches back to the 50's. Just watched Michael Caine in "Funeral in Berlin" 1966 - brilliant and the other two Michael Caine - Harry Palmer movies are also available. I also have a wonderful (ah hmmm) Bali DVD collection whose quality is quite often very questionable to unplayable and believe you me this streaming site is just day & night in quality.

Now this site has had a chequered past and there is a huge question concerning this sites legality. Their catalogue (pointing) server is based in Tonga. It is not a torrent site, per se, as in you are not downloading, locally storing and then ongoing sharing but rather is a streaming site. The sites disclaimer is: "This site does not store any files on its server. All contents are provided by non-affiliated third parties".

The only downside (criticism) to this site is if it is busy then there is huge buffering or just failure to play. Most of the content is hosted on "non-affiliated third parties" servers between two and sometimes upto four servers. But I have had >95% success rate and once a show is playing there is usually no buffering.

So I sent freitasm my original draft before actual posting to see if I had broken FUG by mentioning this sites name and address and he quite rightly stated that I had due to: “copyright infringement happening as they don't have distribution rights”. Thank you Freitasm for that clarification. So I have edited this post to reflect FUG.

As I stated above I am probably the last to know about this site in these forums. If you want to know this sites name then PM me as I will not be naming it in these forums.

You can watch this sites content directly on your computer or your iDevice and by using a casting app, in my case Web Video Caster which casts to my TV via Chromecast. (it is free with tiny Ad's or NZ$6.99 one off Apple App store purchase to get rid of the small ad's and enable Bookmarking) This casting app works and is great and they do keep it upto date with seemly monthly updates. There are several others in the Apple store but none caught my fancy as this one did. Some wanted ongoing monthly subscriptions and others wanted high one off fees and some had too many bells and whistles for my wanting and some had not been updated in a long time.

Cheers enjoy 🍷

So you are paying $8 to illegally stream content?

You're not the first one to make this mistake. A couple of years ago a "reporter" wrote an article on Stuff about how illegal downloads were so bad, when the alternatives were so good, cheap, and easy to use. The service he recommended and was paying for was run out of Russia, and absolutely copyright infringement.

I am not paying for anything from this site. It is free and this is the grey area, particularly for USA law. The only thing I paid for was the universal casting app.

What I meant was you can pay $8 to rent legally on NZ streaming sites like Apple, Lightbox etc which is the same cost as a bricks & mortar rental DVD. But a lot of the movies I like, classic well made oldies and gay themed, are not available via legal NZ streaming sites or on DVD in NZ. 85% of my entire DVD collection of 494, of which 138 are gay themed, I bought during a 30 year period in Sydney mostly from the likes of HUM On King in Newtown Sydney which has a large collection of alternative music and movies, if they haven't got it, they can get it. The rest are either expensive amazon or cheap and nasty Bali ones or "on sale" Warehouse or JB HiFi (NZ & AU) of all genres. I have only managed to buy two gay themed movies since returning home to NZ; "Love, Simon" and "C.R.A.Z.Y." via TradeMe. NZ is just too small a market for alternative, cult or limited run anything.

So having found this particular streaming site, legal or not, suits me fine and caters for my tastes and it sure bets the hell out of Torrent sites which I wont touch with a barge pole.

Pretty annoying sometimes in 2019 when we can't get [obscure movie of your choice] from a reputable streaming site or ppv. Getting there slowly..

What happened to that long tail theory anyway?

Is there a point where ISP's will care and tell it's customers to use less or do they not care?

There is still tons of people in the USA that have "unlimited" plans that are actually limited because the ISP will cap the speed after a certain point
