I'm guessing it will be marketed as a "pay per view" premium product like Disney did with Mulan......

Basically its the accountants/Stockholders winning over the creative,  who will still be wanting a large screen theatrical distribution for their Art ...

"You have finished product sitting on the shelf... why is it not making any money yet???"

Apparently its at no extra cost from what I'm reading.

HBO Max?  I'm sure thats fine for the USA; but what about the rest of the world?

(Here's a hint: It's the WORLD-WIDE web...)

---

I've just checked a different Movie News website, which says "Internationally, where HBO Max is not available, the film will open in cinemas on December 16th."

I hadn't heard of this movie and thought you were referring to the old Wonder Woman TV series with Lynda Carter.

WW ‘84 is the sequel, the original movie (Wonder Woman 2017) starring Gal Gadot (and Chris Pine ) and directed by Patty Jenkins, was I think the highest grossing super hero movie at that time.

The trailers are out, movie was supposed to be released last year but got put on hold. It should be out xmas day.

It was the highest-grossing on the new DCEU movies at the time and rather an enjoyable watch, but it wasn't even the highest-grossing superhero movie of the year it came out, having been beaten by both Spiderman and Thor.

I do look forward to WW '84 but don't know if I will bother going to the movies to see it.

Yeah I saw the original Wonder Woman and quite enjoyed it, I just didn't know there was a sequel since I'm not really that into super-heroes.

Since it will be out on HBOMax by then and Warners has announced it will be available in 4K with Atmos, Dolby  Vision and HDR assuming you have a device that supports that (Firestick 4K, ATV, Google Chromecast TV but not Roku) the day after there might be other viewing options available :-)

Still even thought I have a HD PJ 100" and Atmos at home, and I could sign up for HBOMax for one month and it would be cheaper for 4 of us to watch at home, I think I will still go to the Embassy in Wellington and see it on the big screen

Is it really the day after though?

Our release days for movies is normally midnight on a Thursday. Because the the 'box office opening weeknd' stats in the US start on their Friday and run the weekend don't they?.

In either case, you'll need more than that month trial.

The entire catalogue including dune is going hbo max (theatres where possible) for 2021

https://variety.com/2020/film/news/warner-bros-hbo-max-theaters-dune-matrix-4-1234845342/

Guess if local theatres pick them up depends on ongoing revenue.

This won't be helping some.

WB is releasing their entire 2021 catalogue on HBO Max. They may still screen in cinemas here as usual given we have a cinema industry that's still functional. But there will be international distribution models created. WB won't be limiting their revenue to USA given the rest of the world usually brings in as much or more money than the domestic market.

Same day

"Wonder Woman 1984 will be released on HBO Max the same day it’s in theaters - The Verge" https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2020/11/18/21504152/wonder-woman-1984-release-delay-new-date-warner-bros-disney-black-widow-dune-tenet

And you can sign up for HBO Max for one month. I would just sign up a couple of days before.

I was meaning your referral to a day after.

Presumably now I re-read it, you refer to someone who has ripped it from an online source. Which probably shouldn't have been alluded to.

Probably too subtle.  I am sure HBOMax is not available here so to access it you will need some sort of proxy which is slighty beyond the topic of this forum

Not only HBO Max is not available in NZ (Geo restriction), but also they don't accept NZ credit cards to open an account. I have tested with my credit card. It was rejected demanding a card with US bank account to subscribe.
