I am able to get iPlayer on ipad without issue, but when I try and cast to Chromecast or using Airplay to Samsung TV it wont work - any ideas on workaround?

The issue is the same whether streaming or content already downloaded.

Chromecast picks up iPlayer (shows logo on TV and ‘ready to cast’) but will not allow content to play.

Disclaimer: I don't own a Chromecast and it's been a while since I read about it, but...

I think you need to block Google's DNS servers in your router/firewall. As I understand it, Chromecast will always use Google DNS if available, which in turn will break iPlayer.

Yep - As above.

As soon as you cast to the chromecast it loads the bbc app and starts to play. The chromecast uses googles DNS by hardwired default and googles DNS says you are not in the UK - so no iplayer for you.

If you block googles DNS servers in your router, the chromecast should then start using the DNS you set up on the router - so should hopefully work ok.

Thanks for the quick responses :-)

I hoped that switching internet off may solve that problem, with wifi still active for streaming....but thats a no.

Any guidance on how I block the Chromecast DNS servers? using Deco X20 modem/router.

Also is this the same issue when trying to use airplay from ipad to TV, noting that TV does not have iPlayer installed (and can’t due to location)?

https://www.expressvpn.com/support/troubleshooting/tp-link-block-ip-address/

Even gives an example of the first address.

I believe you need to block  8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4

Or throw some money at it and use an AppleTV or even a PC connected via HDMI to the TV. You may find that easiest in the long run. I blocked Google's DNS in my router and it caused me issues with other devices that relied on pinging Google's DNS to determine an active network connection. Crazy I know but....

Mirroring works differently so not odd at all.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.
