REVRY or REVRY HOME is a LGBTQ+ streaming service available in New Zealand and worldwide. It is subscription free with ad's or subscription without ad's (monthly or yearly). I mentioned this site yesterday here:   #2729103

I finally had a good look at it yesterday via the browser site version and the tvOS version. With the the tvOS version only a couple gripes: Not very intuitive to navigate around and a lot of buffering once you are streaming. I think this could be due to them only having one lot of servers all based in the States.

However the browser based website is appalling. I think this is due to the designers porting the iOS/tvOS to a browser base and OH BOY it does not work.

  1. no scroll bars
  2. it is all image map linked & driven, even the site navigation bar across the top. (right clicking brings up all things related to images NOT to the webpage that the image is meant to be linked to)
  3. due to #2 you can not open links in separate tabs and this is the main method of search these days (go down a list, click to open links in another tab in background, go through those tabs at leisure)
  4. when you click on a link then return you can only return via the back button BUT worst still, you get returned to the top of the originating page again even though you are miles down that page and now have to mouse scroll (no scroll bar) to your last position.
  5. all of the above makes for VERY slow site navigation!!
  6. There is no mention of subscription info on fees except at the initial sign-up stage - not even in FAQ
  7. the overall site is very very slow to load with a spinning load symbol all the time and then fade in of the page
  8. This makes the site all very very laborious  ❗️☹️

NOTE: I am talking about the REVRY HOME website not their front REVRY advertising site which appears to be a normal website site design.

PS: it does load quicker in Safari than Firefox 89. So it looks like it is all Apple code based, maybe Swift, I don't know.

I sent the above list to the site support and got back:

Using Edge Chromium, didn't notice anything misbehaving on the site.

Also edited your post - no need to dox the support person by copy/paste the whole email including signature with address and phone number. Not cool.

Ok now for the review

Revry (Revry.tv) is a global streaming network launched in 2016 that focuses on queer content and creators. It was founded by Damian Pelliccione, Alia J. Daniels, Christopher Rodriguez, Wadooah Wali and LaShawn McGhee. The website offers a curated selection of films, series, podcasts, music, and videos. Additionally, Revry releases original content, including the series Gayborhood, Before I Got Famous, and Drag Roast, as well as numerous podcasts. Its content is available online and via services including iOS, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Android TV, Roku, and TiVo.

In addition to its LGBTQ themes, Revry promotes content inclusive of racial and ethnic diversity. In 2019, founder Rodriguez said, "I think a driving force behind our programming is reflecting the community as we are as opposed to what's trendy or what big-wig execs think is marketable."

Breaking the service down

Live variety show - House of Pride (80 Min)
Live channel - today newsie channel with a weeks up and coming by days schedules
Music - R&B, Queens, Hip Hop, Pop, variety & featured channels
OML - channel devoted to gay woman
Movies - some are short short (2 to 3 min) whilst the rest are ½ hour to 1½ hour. Whilst there is a good of selection of fiction, there is also a good dollop of docu-drama’s & docu-miseries. Covers a variety of genres
TV series, some are shorts 10 min while most are 30 min. Covers a variety of genres
News - covering politics, entertainment, life & Stlye

Overall the quality of entertainment is good but there are some clangers 😀 but overall it is a huge selection to watch. Some you can watch without signing up, then sign up for more with ads or ad free for a fee. $59.99/yr or $6.99/mth (US $).

As I stated in the above post, the website browser based site is appalling. You will find it a lot easier to browse and add to “My List” via the tvOS or iOS app. (Click on Favorite to add to My List).

Would I subscribe - no. I would rather spend by money on Netflix and Amazon Prime both of which have a moderate selection of LGBTQ+ entertainment and getting bigger each month. If you are into LGBTQ+ politics and the Rue Paul type infotainment then this streaming site maybe for you.

Thanks freitasm, duly noted.

Did you notice that you can not open tabs in the background or the lack of a scroll bar. Edge Chromium may be faster than Firefox but I still reckon it is not a very well designed site to navigate around in.
