Hi guys,

Lately I've noticed that Apple TV+ is not doing a good job of buffering shows. I've noticed significant pauses in Ted Lasso, Foundation and See. Presumably the shows are in 4k.

Even when the show resumes playing, the video is usually significantly downgraded (although it usually upgrades again after a short while).

I have fibre and the bandwidth is definitely not being stressed.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yeah I've noticed this as well just when the stream starts after awhile it's fine, not using ISP DNS (using Cloudflare)

I've had no problem with image quality or buffering during Apple TV+ shows, but have noticed the last couple of nights there's a very significant delay before playback starts, which isn't something I've been aware of earlier. All other VOD services working perfectly.

I've never seen buffering issues with AppleTV+, and only very rarely with Netflix (HD plan) or Disney+. Movies on all 3 services always start instantly.

I'm on gigabit with BigPipe and have the AppleTV 4K box connected by ethernet to a switch which then connects to the modem.

Connected to a 1080p tv, so only pulling down a 1080p stream.

It's amazing how quickly I've become used to such a high quality experience, given the years and years of progressive broadband rollout here in NZ. I need to remember how lucky I am that we all have access to such a high quality broadband infrastructure. A mate of mine who settled in Australia the same time I settled in NZ is forever bemoaning his woeful broadband situation in Melbourne.

I frequently offer to carrier pigeon him files on a USB stick as I tell him it'd arrive sooner than his download speed allows.

Slightly OT but after upgrading iPhone XR and iPad Air Gen 4 to iOS/iPadOS 15 I've noticed delays in the start (screen is black for several seconds) of media streams especially on Youtube. Never ever noticed it before. Will be testing my AppleTVs when I get home.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

I've seen some weirdness with this too. Poor frame rate on a 2021 Apple TV 4k, but if I use the built in Apple TV app on my LG C1 it works fine.

Vodafone VDSL 100/30 connection, everything on ethernet.

FWIW, my AppleTV 4K is the original 4K model, so would be circa 2018, I think.
