I installed Rova app to get access to NZ radio on Android Auto in better quality than the FM receiver in the car.  Does anyone know what format this is streamed in and are there better quality options for NZ radio that work with Android Auto?

I’ve noticed Rova has a very high quality stream. I managed to find a streaming link out of the website code a while ago and noted it at 192kbit, compared iHeart and noted it at 64kbit.

To me if Mediaworks want to dump FM broadcasts then this is the right approach

Now I've got VLC open:

Ref: https://mediaworks.streamguys1.com/chx_net/playlist.m3u8 (Channel X) - MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a), content bitrate 128k

Comparing to iheartradio

Its for sure not the "HD" that they said on the advertising, but it is acceptable quality, whereas the other ones are pushing out a really artifacty sounding stream, a huge downgrade from the FM output (At least in Auckland, I know that they use trash-tier audio on the out of auckland transmitters)

Really tho, if you have the data to burn on the go for streaming, why listin to this when you can listen to something good?

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!
