If you're sharing an ad-free YouTube Premium or YouTube Music account with friends or family who live outside of your home, you could lose your premium privileges. Customers who lose these can still watch YouTube or listen to music with ads -- but let's be real, it's not the same.

Multiple reports have shown people who have the service have been receiving notices that their premium service will be paused for 15 days due to violating a policy that's been in place since 2023.

Wonder how this works with mobile and travel.

We have 4 accounts on our family plan - that would be accessed from home, on 3 different phones (on 3 different networks) or from other towns/cities when travelling.

Most likely making a http request and checking the source ip address, so your "home" internet's external ip address, I wonder how that works behind CG-NAT etc. Potentially a hash of a few other things like local network ip/gateway too.

Potentially tailscale or similar vpn like client on every device and exit node via home would be workaround.

Yes, my single user plan $17.99 → $22.99 from November. Unamused but the use case still stands so I guess I'll wear it.

I am over half way through You Tube Premium's free first month, and I just got an e-mail to say that its going to increase the subscription price by $5 per month for the individual plan. I was going to renew it, but like every other streaming service; they get you hooked, then bang up the price. Well, its back to annoying ads and Apple Music... its the principle, not the increase.

same, seems not that long ago it increased from NZ$19.99/month to NZ$29.99/month (was actually 2 years ago, time flies). Plus I risk losing my premium privileges as 2 of our family members no longer live at home.

got the same... requires rethinking now. if the increase goes towards providing Tidal quality music, it'd be much more palatable.

Just got the email today. I don't use the music and mainly use it for casting to the TV. Getting too much for me and no sign of the lite version in NZ. Will most likely cancel and back to an adblocker on Brave browser for my PC. Maybe if enough people cancel it may prompt them to launch the lite version here as they have in Australia.

I use Premium for YouTube Music and YouTube without ads. I have more than one account. Price increases are causing me to rethink it.

Coincidentally the main TV isn't signed in lately and I've been watching with ads. For most content ads are not too bad and most have a skip button certainly better than TVNZ experience ; ). I'm still slightly annoyed I originally signed up for Google Red when Google was making some fantastic content and then they just stopped making stuff for it except influencer style entertainment. I'm still a big fan of all Google services and Google engineering.

YouTube Music does not have audio high resolution for these prices? Lately I've been thinking about moving to Tidal or some similar highres service. I'll probably do that soon. Since the change to Alphabet Google has moved to product squeeze maximum revenue out of existing products without much change and even removing products. Circles for instance would be a sane and growing product in these times. There have been big moves away from Facebook and nothing to move to.

Think TVNZ is bad try Three Now since Sky took over. It's like watching normal TV with the same ad breaks . Under WBD you would get a couple in an hour but not now.

Since a number of people have mentioned cancelling Youtube, you may consider this legal alternative.

Firefox with uBlock Origin works on Windows, Android (mobile phones, ...),

But not on iOS. Apple restricts third-party browsers on iOS to use its WebKit engine, and extension support is limited.
