Youtube has changed their algorithm. Again. Now there is a "Most relevant" section at the top that shows stuff that I don't want.

Luckily, Reddit to the rescue. Pasting the following into ublock origin filters gets rid of it.

! Hide "Most relevant" section
youtube.com##ytd-rich-section-renderer:has(#title:has-text(Most relevant))

I've also found a good block of text for getting rid of ALL shorts, as they are a dangerous way to waste huge amounts of time if clicked on. Yes, I know self control would be better.
The text block is a bit bigger. but I can drop that here as well if there is any interest in it.

I miss they days were you'd go down a rabbit hole watching related recommended videos down the side bar. These days its always trying to recommend unrelated rubbish.

the "most relevant" section is like a "hey you missed this" section. typically something like 90% of views happen in the first 48hrs, then it drops to a trickle. so its probably utube trying to get the most out of each video. handy if you missed some of your regular content but annoying if you haven't.

I added a ublock filter to remove all you tube comments, then I added a filter to block all youtube shorts
https://github.com/i5heu/ublock-hide-yt-shorts
then I realised I hated the recommended videos, so I just paused watch history, this kills both recommended and shorts.
now I only see the subscribed channels, anything I manually search for, or any video I see linked from somewhere else.
the distraction of you tube has now gone an I feel so much happier.

This does not work in AdBlocker Ultimate > Filters > Custom Filters in macOS Firefox

Any ideas??

Also isn't YouTube meant be releasing a new lower cost subscription that is approx ½ of what it is now ??

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Use Ublock Origin
