Yep, wrote to Bigpipe support, when they reply more or less the same as you, I'll go from there.

If I knew I would not have switched from Slingshot at all. I had a very sweet plan, that is no longer offered, now there is no going back. I just was hoping for significant speed increase. Some people with VDSL easily have 35000 kbps.

I've heard that there is a slim chance that DLM can take some time to settle, but that's usually with speed going down, not up....

VDSL perticularly on a longer line, is highly dependant on crosstalk in your pairs, the and the size/quality of the copper in your area.

You could be lucky, have rather thick copper (far more common for rural locations) and get a massive boost. You could equally be unlucky and be in a dense set of pairs where crosstalk is high.

VDSL since going to 998 does use US0 like ADSL, however it uses a lower power level.

True, but they usually have short lines, with downstream attenuation below 5dB.

Well I am happy to report that Bigpipe ADSL has been very good so far.

In fact the latency is better than all my years paying $125 per month for Maxnet.

Bigpipe ADSL is better and is saving us $46 per month.

No complaints here.

Some of us who want better connections will either move to where the connections are better, wait for VDSL to improve wait for UFB2 roll out.

It could be a long wait so best to make all possible home wiring improvements to ensure maximum performance of what you have.

The only time that internet connection technologies reality met and exceeded exceptions for us was moving to ADSL from Dial up.... (A lifetime ago) LOL

Had Satellite about 16 years ago and that was pretty good too but huge latency wrecked the gaming aspect and one was still required to tie up the phone lines for the up-link aspect.

You never know, you may well see improvement during DLM. It was suggested at the time that I would and our connection conditions are no doubt different.

I would give it a couple of months like I did, then go back to ADSL with them, there is not charge to do so and for use there was instant improvement.

in your case yes, absolutely you need to change out that filter.

that is an ADSL filter not a VDSL capable one.

A filter upgrade will help, but not a whole lot - your old stats had an SNR of 5dB, and your new stats have an SNR of 9dB - were you a bigpipe DSL customer, or another provider? IIRC, wholesale gear targets a higher SNR margin than UCLL.

6db and 9dB profiles are common on UCLL.

For sure, and VDSL isn't UCLL - so I suspect the drop in speed is due to being a marginal customer with tighter SNRs - odds are good that his speeds will have improved over wholesale equipment, but probably not UCLL equipment.

because your stats were almost identical to the op's and you saw what they had.

it was mentioned that would should have expected anything more.

There really is no way to know for sure what you will get till you get it installed. Unfortunately you are in one of those situations where it hasnt worked in your favour.

Sucks but nothing you can do.

Come to think about it - I do not have a phone line or what not (bigpipe does not give you one) - this means that in theory I do not need a filter at all...

Do you think that the old ADSL filter could actually harm? I would imagine the answer to that is "Yes, but not much".

it will do no harm to remove it in that case.

Just connect your VDSL jackpoint directly to the ETP, no joints in the connection.

As long as it's a naked connection it is indeed best to remove all possible weak links in the connection, including all previously installed filters.

I would suggest though that you keep your disruption to your current VDSL connection to a minimum as it can be seen as connection instability during the DLM period and could cause a downgrade. I experienced the first time around. I was use to rebooting my ADSL router frequently to establish a better sync rate, which worked well, however with VDSL it doesn't work at all, it simply is seen as unstable and tries to correct for it.

Something to keep in mind while DLM is establishing a profile.
