Disclaimer: I realise there are many Geekzoners who take coffee very, very seriously and have practicly elevated the art of the perfect cup to a religion, so I realise I am in deep, dark waters here. :)

Stuff had an article a while back about Bulletproof Coffee which got me into researching it a little. To cut a long story short, my lifestyle and eating habits have changed and a part of that was having to try Bulletproof Coffee. Personally, after reading a lot of material I don't buy into the mycotoxin hype myself - I just use decent arabica which I enjoy, Mainland butter and virgin organic coconut oil into a Magic Bullet.

I love it! It's pretty much replaced breakfast for me on most mornings now and keeps me going well into the evening. I was wondering if anybody else has tried it and what you think?

Love it, switched to a LCHF diet a few months ago to help with endurance training and it's definitely a staple in my day, great way to sneak some extra fat in

I have a friend who swears by the Butter Coffee/Dave Asprey Bullproof Cult...and fair play to him he has lost a shed-load of weight since buying into this particular lifestyle fad - though I am sure a lot of it boils down to skipping a nutritional breakfast in favour of a cup of coffee...

The coffee itself sounds like it may be tasty enough - would probably try it out of curiosity if I had the opportunity to do so.

That said, I think the medical opinion/caveat in Stuff is likely true enough - it isn't some nutritional miracle, the fats it contains are not the best fats for you by a long shot and any perceived health benefit is likely to be mostly placebo.

Still, if it works for you, go for it!

Sounds delicious.

Also sounds like a meal in itself and not something you should be consuming with bacon, eggs and a croissant.

But better one of these than sugar laden cereal.

This makes me cringe a little.
Just remember, breakfast typically comes after a 10-12 hour break from your last meal, and if you skip it (or replace it with a nutritionally empty meal like coffee and butter), that turns into almost 18 odd hours of not giving your body nutrition.
18 hours your body is running on reserves that are long depleted for a lot of nutrients. Or in another light, 2/3rds of your life.

Just sayin :)

I'm not really sure how adding saturated fats to something makes it nutritious or healthy.

Rappelle:We don't bother with the branded coffee - it's fine with coffee from the super market, any old butter and coconut oil.


You know something is up when "Bulletproof" is a registered trademark, you should really use their recommended Kerrygold butter and it's a "paleo diet"...

I am not saying it's effective or not. Just saying that like other diets there's people trying to curb it and make "theirs". Like some company trying to trademark Cafe Latte or Cappuccino...

*shrug* I live a LCHF lifestyle and practice intermittent fasting regularly. It's working fine for me and my cholesterol and blood sugar levels are normal for the first time in 15 years. I am insulin resistant and after struggling for years to lose weight, it is finally starting to come off. The rest of my meals are perfectly nutritious and I manage to hit all my macros daily. Personally I fail to see how a carb-laden (and by that I mean wholegrains, fruit and dairy) breakfast is any healthier than this for me. :P Sorry, I don't want to go on a massive rant about keto but yeah, what works for some might not work for others.

You could use pure MCT oil if you like (in fact it is recommended), it's just a lot more expensive than coconut. Perhaps deodorized coconut might be another option if it's the taste/smell that puts you off? The RBD stuff will have been heat treated though, so some micro-nutrients are bound to go missing, but it's not a major trainsmash if your diet is otherwise balanced. :)

Yep, I just make my own. Thanks for the link, checking it out now. I don't really understand the science behind it, if there is any - but I know that the fat keeps me fueled and full, and the caffeine provides a boost. And it's freaking *delicious* :)
