My partner has decided to grow a beard - first time.

We currently have a 6 year old Sassoon Trimmer (battery) but he finds that the Foil Shaver attachment for around the bare neck and face areas is too rough and does not glide well. His current old bare face shaver is an old 3 rotating headed Philips does not really do the hedge row edges well at all.

He is looking, maybe, at the Philips OneBlade and OneBlade Pro range of personal groomers.

He has been on YouTube looking into the care of beards etc.

What are members suggestions ?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Interesting. I have a Wahl and need a replacement for one of the heads. The replacement costs more than these Braun. Might look at these if the second, smaller head breaks too.

I have a Philips cordless set, similar to the following but an older model. It is still going well though this one came up recently seeing as it was relatively heavily discounted. Though as mine is still working fine, I didn't buy but was tempted given the price:

I have Remington. The plastic degrades after a few years and gets sticky, no matter how often you clean it. I think it's the type of plastic they use. They're good, other than that, so if they make a metal model it'd be good.

I have a similar Braun to sidefx

Previously have had Remington but the comb-thingies to regulate the cut length were a bit fragile.

The Braun has a better system for this, as well as being easy to clean / adjust etc

I've had the exact set linked for a couple of years now and can't fault it. The battery lasts ages between charges (like around 6 months with my infrequent use). Blades cut nicely and don't grab the hairs.

The one thing that irks me, is that the large trimmer guides step up from 4mm to 9mm whereas I'd personally like a 6-7mm one. I haven't even bothered to see if aftermarket guides are available (probably are, I'm too lazy to check 😅).

My partner has gone for the "Philips 18-in-1 Multigroom Series 7000 MG7770/15"

RRP $299.99 but he has managed to pick it up from "Get A Cut" in Auckland for $134.00 inc GST and $9.00 shipping. This is even less than their advertised price of $149.00.

All the reviews, from various sites, are good to great.

Had a Remington all in one shaver was quite good given it had adjustable height 1mm to i think 19mm. being waterproof was great for cleaning etc.

now i just use a walh cordless clipper as it doubles for hair cut or just #3 for beard.

I've had my one for 5+ years now and this thing is still going strong. Excellent battery once charged and blades do an excellent job of trimming. A lot of barbers I go to, seem to use it as well.

I like to combine it with an Andis Profoil.
